Dog Health Questions: Pro Dog Training...two options?

Very high overview....

Two dog training facilities (one of them I've used for personal training for Murphy)

Do you see anything alarming in either one of them...and which one would you choose and why?

Basic Obedience Training - Secret of Having a Well-Behaved Dog - Training Tips For Different Dogs

Recommended Answer:
Depends on what you want. I didn't get much from the first website except a bunch of flash. Sure there were videos but most showed protection trained dogs. They don't hardly mention what their training involves. They just have a list of training that they do. I mean obedience training can run the whole gamet of household pet to specialized training.

The second site was much better. While it had less flash it was more informative. All I had to do was look at what was offered for classes. Seeing this wetted my appetite because they train competitive obedience which is where my interests lie. I liked and hated the fact that the competition classes were full.

So if I could choose, I'd consider the second site because it told me what it had to offer and that it is in the area of training that I'm interested in.

Sadly your question this morning was deleted after I tried to post my answer again :(

Get a Well Trained Dog With Dog Training Guides

  • Yes! The first one has a link to sell puppies- nobody reputable sells puppies on the Internet! It is clearly a Schutzhund training facility. I would not deal w/ them.

The second one has lots of pictures of their members winning in obedience & other competitions- that is results! I would definitely go there! The dogs & people look happy!

Unless you are looking to train a personal protection dog, go w/ Star City for sure. That is a training club, so it is probably a lot cheaper as well.

  • I hate websites for training facilities. You don't get a real FEEL as to what their methods are until you go in and talk to them.

I will say something regarding the first site and people shying away from it because they seem really into Schutzhund and PP.
My trainer's facility kind of comes across that way as well sometimes (not as much, but still). He does train Schutzhund dogs, PP dogs, etc. but the first day I went in for training, guess what was walking out in the session before me? A Yorkie lol.
He will change his methods depending on the dog BUT he believes in corrections and believes that the level of the correction is dependant on the individual dog. Same theory applies to training tools.

To me, a reliable trainer is one that doesn't refuse to use certain training methods even when the dog clearly needs it. A reliable trainer will also include corrective methods in their training no matter what type of dog is in his/her class. It's just the type and level of correction that will change dependant on the individual dog.

  • Since I have no interest in protection dogs, I would look more closely at the second site.
However, I would not make any decision based on a website. The first site seems way too flashy-which makes me wonder about their motvation for training. Money and accolades do not impress me. And the puppy link is rather out of context. If they want to breed, they should have a separate site for advertising.
If I was looking for CGC or therapy I wouldn't give that site a single glance because there are NO pictures of anything other than protection training.

At least the second site has some accomplishments listed that would be of interest to the average dog owner.

  • I like the first one. I don't know why but it seems they are well rounded. I would pick the first one for Launi.

If I had the money and the time.

The second may be better for Murphy but I like the idea spanglerkennels has a wider spectrum.

  • I would go with the second on...Star City.

The reason I would not go with the first one, is because they seem to train exclusively shepherds and shutzhund type dog and I'm quite sure, their training techniques would not work on my hounds.

  • They both look fine but I didn't go past the front page the main thing is they are both different. For me I don't do Protection type training I do agility so I would go to the agility trainer.
