Dog Health Questions: Dog training in colorado?

How would I do opening an at home buisness on my ranch with dog grooming, boarding, and training? I would train basic obedience, agility, tracking, schutzhund, bomd detection, search and rescue ex. How would I do as far as buisness and pay? I know the economy is bad right now but this won't be for atleast another 5 years.

First thing I would do is scope out the competition in your area. What services do they offer customers? What are their employee's qualifications/certifications? What type of facilities do they have? How do they advertise? And, of course, what are their prices? It'll give you a good idea of how to price your own services and how your set up would compare to the competition.

Second, you'll have to get liability insurance if you're opening up a business. If something happened to a dog or someone dropping/picking up a pet and they decided to sue, you need this insurance to protect yourself. Start looking for some quotes now and a year before you plan to open to get a good idea of the cost.

Next, take a look at your expenses while operating this business. Will you have to pay for extra help, and how much will their salaries be? How much will products be such as kennels, food, dishes, toys, etc. Then, how much will it cost to advertise for your business? Take all this into account before you set your prices for all your services.
