If used correctly it will be fine. It only tightens when the dog pulls and it will release as soon as there is slack in the line. Do not tie the dog up with it or let the dog roam free. It will train the dog faster with less nagging.

Choosing an Online Dog Training Program

  • It is a PRONG collar...it is designed to pinch the skin around the neck, not drive spikes into the dog. And used correctly, it is a lot safer than the metal chokers that people use.

  • Get a head colar it dosn't hurt them and it works great on pitbulls.

  • ouch. spike collars sounds painful. try to use regular collars for dogs

  • I use one on my dog because its a self correcting tool. She lunges after small animals and has been learning not to without associating ME or the animal with a correction. She just feels a pinch when she lunges and associates the behavior with the pinch, so she won't do it.

The proper term for it is Prong Collar. You really should have a trainer show you how to use it - improper use can, just like with any other tool, cause pain and/or injure the dog.

  • It is a prong or pinch training collar not a spike collar unless the spikes are on the outside of a leather collar. Prong collars are power steering and the most humane training aid used correctly. Head collars reStrain and can permently hurt a dog's neck and spine where as a pinch train the dog and unless you hang the dog it will not hurt the neck. I've used them on 6lb to 100lb dogs with great results and high scores in obed tests.

  • IF IT IS FOR PULLING there is anothe type that is less harmful for the dog.
You have to go online to "Animal Planet... Gloria Sillwell's / It's me or the dog. You might be able to find it there .
It turns the dogs head when it starts to pull so less harmful.
    good luck

  • That collar is some thing that is meant for harm why would you want to harm your dog on purpose?

  • Use a regular chain choke collar- ive been using one for my puppy starting from 6 months now she is 10 months. The prong collar is used to keep dogs from pulling but so does the regular choke collar- please note there is a proper way to put on choke collars....

Do not leave a choke collar on outside of training or walking it, cause it can get caught on things. I have one easy release collar that my dogs wear throughout the day, but when we are going for a walk or training we use choke collars on them and then take them off when we're done
