Professional Dog Training - The Easy Road in Dog Obedience Training
Recommended Answer:
The classes that are given at petsmart is not pet training..it's people training. It teaches owners the very basics of owning and caring for a dog and simple commands like sit, stay, down.
If you want real training, hire a trainer..one who took more then 8 hours of training in the back of a store...
Selecting Quality Dog Training Leads
- Right On!! Most people on Yahoo! Answers are trying to be helpful, but some have their own Agenda. That happen to me recently, some people think they have all the answers and are nasty if you disagree with what they've done. I guess they're insecure and feel threatened. The truth is often there is more than one way to do things successfully.
Someone might have been mad that they spent a lot more money or they have a vested interest in making you seem wrong because they are a paid dog trainer. I've had one or two dogs at a time, most of my life and they have been well-behaved, known tricks and been terrific without any formal training. So if Petsmart worked, great for you and Patches. - Classes at PetSmart or Petco are really hit or miss. Sometimes you get a good trainer, sometimes you don't. Because of this they aren't top on my list of where to find a trainer, but if you got a good one and got results Great!
Most of the people on YA are Koehler and compulsion fans, so you'll get a lot of response saying training based in R+ is junk.
To each their own. - People are entitle to their own opinions...
- I think you missed the point.
Petsmart type training is beginner level training. It's a place to start, and was never intended to be anything else. So now that you have done that, why not do a little more and join an O/B training club, and learn even more.

No, most of us that use Koehler type training programs know how to use R+ properly. We just haven't forgotten that proper Operant conditioning also includes R- , P+, and P-, and use each in their proper proportion.
Simple question; is P+ no longer P+ when it is used for a que?
