Dog Health Questions: HELP ABUSIVE DOG TRAINING?

I am so pissed !!! My grandpa hits their puppy whenever she barks and bangs things and yells. If she pulls on the leash, he screams at her and yanks her so her wimpers!!! And then the ****** says dominance based training is the only way to train! WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If its your grandfather, sit down with him and explain to him that there is a difference between dominance and abuse. period.

• There is a difference between dominance and abuse - what he is doing is part abuse, party bullying. Dominant beings do not scream or hit, they use their energy and body language to convey their feelings/thoughts. They are calm, collected, and in charge.
  
  If he only believes in dominance based training - some people do, it IS their right to believe what they want - then subtly point him to some dominance based training books or DVDs so he can learn "PROPER" dominance based methods.
  
  It would be much easier than trying to convince him of something entirely different (which likely cannot be done overnight OR without an actual behaviorist/trainer/researcher on hand to give him the straight facts.)


• well tell ur grandpa that what hes doing is wrong and will cause the puppy not to trust him and think that evrytime she does something she will think she is gonna be hit. but thats all you can do or you can if he is willing to spend the money take her to dog training classs or just google some ways to train the dog and tell your grandpa about what you found. but other than that there is nothing you can do. :( im sorry! but i hoped i helped some! good luck and i hope he listens and the puppy is ok! :(


• well, since its ur grandpa... u should ask ur grandpa if you can help with the puppy, and when she barks gently hold her nose, and whisper "shhhhh..." If she quiets down reward her with a treat and praise her. Don't make her bark though, then she will just bark to get something good. Ask if ur grumpy grampy will allow you to walk her, let her get used to you. Sometimes this may take hours, if not 2-3 days (if the puppy is difficult). Thank you for letting mah help you!


• You obviously have problems with your grandpa. You might want to address these problems before talking to him about personal matters, such as the way he's training his dog.
  
  Often, older adults use their "tried and true" methods for training. It worked for their childhood dog when their dad did it, it'll work for this one. You know?

• holy ****!! wtf is wrong with him?? report him to the spca and then adotp the dog.jdogs need to bark and its normal for them to pull on a leash. your grampa is a cruel cruel man and hes a *****. im srry if i offended u but he is.


• Tie a leash around your Grandpa's neck.....JUST KIDDING. Report him to animal control. Take videos of him doing it. Teach him, you can't treat animals like that.

• It depends on the dog. Sometimes that how you have to train them. You gotta show the dog your the pack leader. That's what your grandpas doing. Leave him alone im sure he has alot more experience.
