Dog Training - How NOT To Train Your Dog
- I think, when looking for a class, it should be something for "feisty Fido's", in other words, for dogs who are reactive. Putting her in a regular basic obedience class or Petco/PetSmart class isn't going to help. You need a more specialized training.
Really, you can blame your dog for her reacting the way she does. In her mind, she is going to get them, before they get her. It's going to take a lot of work, it also should be done using positive motivation. You want her to associate the another dogs (at a distance) with something pleasurable, not with something negative. - You may need more than just an obedience course, as that would only be exposing her to her triggers. You should look and see what resources there are in your area, in the form of a large veterinary hospital with a referral clinic for such problems - or, contact Nicholas Dodman at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts. He has written many books on such dogs, and has a wonderful reputation for helping them and their owners overcome their fears.
- I would use postive reinforcrment to let her know it all right using very high reward treat and then,I would vist some training class to see if I like them.
