A Guide To Your Dog Training for Law Enforcement
Recommended Answer:
Learn how to work with a reactive dog (that's what you have). Your training instructor should be able to help you with this and any other issues your dog may have. If not, you may want to find someone more qualified. You may want to check out this website for fearful dogs (fearful and reactive dogs often have the same types of behaviors and both can be managed similarly). It has a wealth of information and links, recommended reading, etc.
And lose the bark collar - it's probably doing more harm than good.
Best wishes.
Dog Training Methods
- Watche the dog whisperer! I have the same problem with my dog and his suggestion and he even showed with a dog, is to put your dog on a leash. Have someone come to you front door and ring the doorbell. Open the door with your dog on a leash and let them smell the person until they get bored. Then go about what you were doing. Do this every time and your dog will start to realize that you are in charge. It's okay for them to bark once or twice but then should know to stop. Good luck!
