Dog Health Questions: Teaching my 7 year over nervous dog to walk on a lead.?

okay, i have quite a big problem.

my dog is 7, she is a collie X greyhound. she loves being out running and is so happy. but when she is home she always looks so sad and has her tail between her legs even when she comes to us for fuss (which is very rare). she has always been like this so we believe it is bred in her.
we are not able to take her for a run everyday because the place gets so muddy and wet. we would love to be able to take her for a walk but once on th lead she pulls and yelps and whines all the time. so we cannot take her. and we cant then take the other dogs either because we can leave her home alone because she just whines all the time.
we tried taking her to dog training classes but because she was so scared she did everything straight away, but she is nothing like that at home. she is extremely nervous and runs and hides from everyone except us.

any ideas?

You may want to try the Gentle Leader collar. It works so well with dogs that do not do well on a regular collar and leash. It will help to build her confidence if she enjoys her walks more.

I have 3 shelter dogs, and 2 are very nervous. I walked all the time with 2, but I could not handle my 3rd. She feels so comfortable with it, it took a week to get used to it. She has built up so much confidence. We can take her to the dog park now and out in public. She does fine without it after gaining confidence. She just needed a crutch for awhile, I guess. She did not need confidence counseling, or whatever some suggest, she just needed some good, happy walking time with her mommy!

  • gentle leader

  • She needs confidence training. Seek out a professional trainer in your area.

  • she needs a gentle leader

  • Try being as gental as possibel it should help

  • i would have a trainer come to your home and work with your dog in you home

  • well.....first things first.ur letting the dog control u instead of u controling it.it knows that when it screams and yelps u will stop so it will always do that.u have to be a pack leader and not treat it like a human when its doing bad dog behavior..first just introduce it to him and show him that it wont do any harm.then slip it on and make him come with u and keep it right on ur side.showing whose boss is most important
