Dog Health Questions: What dog breed can I use to hunt quail?

I've never been hunting before, but I'd love to get into hunting dove and quail. What dog breeds are good for bird hunting? Would I need a dog who flushes the birds, or more of a retriever? Or both?
I've had a lot of experience owning and training dogs, though I'd have to have my first dog trained for me since I have little hunting experience.

I would looking into springers and GSP. Of course if you've never been hunting at all I suggest you find some local hunters willing to take you under their wing and get THEIR advice. After that find a reputable working breeder and look into getting an older pup/adult that has been already started on training.

• One good dog is a black mouth cur, he will run into the brush flush em out and he will retrieve as well
  two other good breeds of dogs are any retriever but also small terriers would be good such as jackdaggers
