so the only difference between me and some kid is, yes, I'm 16. but i have my own shed, which is very clean, and big, and heated, and cooled. i do keep a few tools and a couple motorcycles in there though. and i also go in there several times a day already. also i have a job that can pay for the expenses. so would it be even possible to obtain a dog through a breeder at my age? could i get my 20 year old sister to buy her? also is this even practical?!? or am i just going to have to wait till i get married in 10 years before i have a companion?
Thanks.
Overview of Dog Training

Your plan MIGHT work but its a very big might. You would have to get your sister to buy it and also a corgi wouldnt be good for long hikes. You sound very responsible but could you handle training a dog? What if it barks? Can you let it out several times a day to pee and poop without your parents seeing? Could you socialise the dog with other dogs and people? Another thing you would have to consider is that all responsible breeders and shelters insist on home checks to make sure the dog would be well looked after and some also do follow up checks. How would you handle that? You dont want to get a dog from a breeder that doesnt do this because they would not be a responsible breeder and that means that the dog could have all sorts of expensive health issues.
I dont think the backpack and scooter idea would work. She would panic and wriggle and possibly fall off. I think you would have to find another way of sneaking her in and out.
What was the incident with the last dog? Did it bite someone or something? Could you afford a $1000 or £ vet bill if there was an emergency? And could the dog hurt itself on the tools in the shed or knock over one of the motorcycles and get trapped or hurt?
Can you afford to get it its shots at the vet amd get it neutered or spayed, it would need constant supervision afterwards for about a fortnight.
Personally I cant see it working but if you are determined then you might pull it off.
Universal Principles For Successful Dog Training
- If you are serious, no it will never work.
Chill, go to school, get your degree and then when you're out, get your dog. No good breeder will sell to you by yourself without your parents. And if you all lied and your sister bought the dog, the breeder WILL find out too.
Wait, save and prepare. Time does go fast. - Yeah definitely not a good idea or your parent will give you **** and not trust you
Having a dog is also a lot of commitment just focus on school and once you're done and go to college I'm sure you'll make friends. Good luck if you do decide to get a dog lol - well ur plan could work, u could get ur sis to buy u a dog and u could keep him ther..but u have to remember hes an animal and needs to be walked played with cared for..id say u should wait til ur out of the house but if u think u could manage the dog and the rest of ur life then go for it
- your chances of success are microscopic (or less) unless your parents are blind deaf & stupid (and I doubt it) and being still a minor you would need parent signature on a purchase contract
that "Big incident" fills me with trepidation as well - i would tell ur parents of course and tell them that u r becoming an adult and u can pay for the stuff for the dog and u need a friend
good luck - Do your parents have ANY idea how much you need a dog? Do you have any idea how bad getting your Mom on your side against your Dad might turn out? Your only hope is to guilt-trip them into letting you take care of an older rescue dog who lost his home thru no fault of his own, a nice friendly dog that is OK with the little yappers.
Think too that if you follow the normal path in life you'll be leaving home soon and then who will get to look after your dog?
If your parents were able to homeschool you, they must be caring people, so I wonder why they have really denied you your own dog? - You can not hide a dog you have to get it shots, food, toys,& more.It will cost a lot and it would be much better if you got a rat, bunny,or something like that. They can love too you know but it would be better if you did not hide an animal at all because you would just be keeping it as a pet not a friend.Think of what that animal would have to go through just for you companion need and then if you still want a animal then do so but just remember this if the dog not happy then you will not be happy.
