Dog Health Questions: How can I get my dog back from my sister in law, she is just watching him?

I bought a westie puppy for my husband and recently he went crazy and ran off, so I was stuck with the not housetrained puppy. His sister offered to train him for me and watch him, so I obliged. He has been at her house over a month and she has not said anything about giving him back, but she and her husband have been adamant that they do not want to keep him because they dont like terriers. I told her that I dont want to give him to them, because he is my husband's and I paid alot of $$$ for him. Since she has had him she has neglected his vet care (but didnt ask me to come get him until yesterday), changed his dog food to something very, very bad.

My husband paid 100 for dog training and she didnt take him when I told her it was, and she the trainer offered to retrain him and she told her "no thank you, dont have time" without notifying me first (so $$ down the drain). I have hinted that I really miss the dog, but she has not given him back yet. What do I do?!

Recommended Answer:
Although your sister-in-law was "watching" your (or your husband's) dog, you were still responsible for his vet care, not her.

If you want the dog, call hr and tell them you are on your way and go get him. Call the trainer your husband paid and explain the situation, maybe he'll cut you a break and do the training. No services were rendered, so he can't really refuse 100%.

  • tell her you're coming over to pick up your dog today. it was never her dog so go and get your dog back. tell her if she wants a dog, go buy her own dog or rescue one who doesn't already have a good home. there's a dog out there for her, but it's not your dog.

  • Call animal control explain the situation and show them any paper work showing that you are the owner of the dog. that or a friendly threat to take her to small claims for the value of the dog or the dog himself.

  • wow. I would just come by one day and say that I'm taking my dog back, explain to her that you think she hasnt given her proper care.

  • Say - thanks for you help - I'm ready to take my dog back now. Do you want me to pick him up tomorrow or do you want to drop him off.

  • Tell her you are coming over to pick up the dog OR next time you go over there, take the dog when you leave.

  • Knock on her door and say I'm picking up my dog! You walk your behind in their house and take your dog back. He's yours so she better just step aside.

  • OK.. well it is YOUR dog.. I would tell her to give it back and say if she doesnt you'll involve the cops

  • Just go pick up your dog. He is YOUR dog - just take him back.

  • just tell her that you miss your dog and want it back! you paid for! good luck getting your dog back! :)

  • bluntly tell her you miss your dog and want him back...duh!
