Dog Training Tips - Dog Distraction Training

Recommended Answer:
With me??? Of course not, I am PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, if you have been doing this as long as I, trust me, there were times when I wanted to either kill the dog, or kill myself. Here is something that caused me to question my sanity and the dog's ancestry loud enough that people would look at me....
Did you know that the odor of explosives is "heavy"? Sure you did...I know that too. So, now tell me, why does my dog alert on the bottom of a pallet when I have placed the target odor on top of it?
Well, because I suffer from the occasional brain fart and I could not for the life of me get that the odor had "sank" sitting out there for 45 minutes..even when the dog would "sit", look at me and after I asked him to "show me", he kept pointing at the bottom of the pallet!!!
Like I said, there are some days....

ADD: TY Rotten...wait a little bit, my fan club is just now coming on line...give it an hour!!

Pick the Best Dog Training Collar to Train Your Big Dog to Walk

  • there have been times that finally the dog or me goes "HUH?!?!!?"

Tank, occassionally, when trying to train complicated behaviors, or things with many steps will simply lie down and give up, and shut off. it is why i have to train to his drives, to keep him excited.

Sometimes i feel like i need a big brick wall.
    "head, meet wall."

LOL GREEK:::::::::::::::::: handler error.... OOPS - the dog probably thought you were an idiot that day. i bet he was thinking "well, come down here and SMELL IT for yourself!!!

  • Sometimes, yes. Perfect example: Right now, with Gibbs (American Bulldog/Boxer mix). I say "sit" and he sits. I say "lay down" and he sits, lol, every command reverts to "sit" with him, lol. He's still a puppy though, so he's still learning, and testing boundaries here and there. Yeah, it gets a bit frustrating from time to time, and sometimes really does feel like we've reached a point of no return, ha

  • Oh yeah I have had many of those which way do I go and which way did the dog go days....and then there was this Irish Setter....nuff said.

OMG Greek you don't have any thumbs down!!! If I hadn't already given a thumbs up I would give you the required thumbs down just to make you feel loved

  • LOL... more often than not, when you are working with a Gordon Setter! They have a... unique... way of thinking things out for themselves. The girls are too damned smart for their own good and the boys too soft for a decent correction.

But they keep me on my toes, and God, I love 'em!

  • When Duke was little yes. Sometimes still do. But now i can teach them and not be frustrated because i have seen them listen better.

  • Oh Gosh yes. Try teaching go outs to a spaniel that would rather quarter then take a line. Yes it has been a battle of wills lately. He wants to do it his way. And I want him to do it my way.

  • You mean like a point of no return? lol
Or just such frustration that you want to hit yourself in the face?

I own a Doberman - I think that happens to me weekly lol.

  • Confusion & frustration?....nope I try to never become frustrated although I have enough common sense to admit I'm not perfect.ETA- I can only hope that whoever created that sign doesn't have a Driver's License.

  • and the 5 boys REFUSED to stop and ask for directions!!!
