Dog Health Questions: Serious dog training experts? important questions!?

when i first got my puppy i potty trained him all wrong. now hes a little over a year and almost trained correctly now (he is indoor potty trained with a pee mat downstairs). But since my dad thinks he might still have a lot of accidents (since we used to let him pee around this house when he was little) he has to sleep in a small bathroom with his pee mat in it. my friend told me dogs shouldnt sleep/eat where they relieve themselves but my dad says when we go to sleep he has to stay in there incase he needs to pee. but since i've seen him walk downstairs by himself to pee i think hes ready to sleep around the house at night. and one other question about this is: im afraid he'll eat things at night. he likes eating/chewing things hes not suposed to. i've tried bitter apple but i cant spray the whole house!
HELP please!!

Want to Learn How to Train a Dog? Simple But Important Dog Training Techniques

Recommended Answer:
You really should crate train your dog. Then he will sleep in the crate at night. He can hold his pee all night by now, he doesn't need to have access to pee pads any more thru the night if you crate train. Just make sure you take him outside to pee before bed time, then first thing when you wake up take him outside again to pee and it should work fine. Crates are not too pricey, you should be able to find a sutible one at Walmart for about $30 or so. Good luck.

Added: At his age he can hold it all night. He has full control over his bladder muscles now. And if he doesn't go right away you need to stay out for a few minutes with him. If he still doesn't go then he will really have to go in the morning. Sometimes it takes my puppy up to ten minutes out before he will go outside before bed time. You just need to be patient. Good Luck!

Finding the Essential Dog Training Supplies

  • Buy a dog crate. Your dog will not have to sleep where he eliminates, and, you won't have to worry about him at night.
