Dog Health Questions: Does anyone know of a good book about dog training?

I am planning on getting a dog, but I've never had one before and I don't know the first thing about training. I want to train it so it doesn't end up like my cousin's dog who jumps all over people and barks at everything. I want my dog to be my buddy so please hook me up with some sort of books to give me the basics of training my new dog right.

  A tip to you though: Should you want you dog to have a better temperament, always disturb him while he eats.

• You tube has some short training videos just type in puppy training.Gives pointers on teaching to sit,lay down,house breaking,learning name lots different stuff to get you started.I did a lot of research on boxers before I got mine. There are numerous sites on the internet, several training methods offered.Gave me insight on which way I wanted go.I also read some books on my particular breed choice.

  I'm very happy you've decided to get a new dog,I suggest you please adopt a dog from a local shelter.That way it will already be trained for you and you don't have to worry about anything.But you have to think,Do you have a good enviroment for your dog?A big enough yard?enough time to play/exercise your dog?If you have answered yes to all these questions then go ahead and give it a shot,Good Luck ;)


• I would go to a bookstore & look at alot of them & choose the one you like. Some have simpler directions & pictures. Go to Petsmart & Barnes & Noble. Don't buy in haste. Look Around. Look around for discount bookstores like Half Price Books. Sounds like you need the Dog Whisperer. Good Luck
