Dog Health Questions: Beat a dog so bad it acts dead wtf?

I was trying to get some insight on dog training at work and someone said the way to train a dog is to beat the dog so bad when it acts up to the point that it acts dead and completely submits? wtf is up with that? was this a serious piece of advice? can a dog actually get beat so bad it acts dead? I totally understand never put your hands on your dog and a simple stern no will do the trick?

My actual question is does a dog have this capacity? Can a dog really be beat so hard that it gives up and acts dead? No crazy responses I'm just curious if dogs actually do this, i've never seen it or heard of it happening?

He said "to make your dog turn obedient simply beat it so bad until it acts like it's dead and completely submits."

Important Dog Training Information

Recommended Answer:
He must be trying to train a wild Grizzly bear instead of a dog.
Dogs do NOT need that much discipline. They may be stubborn at times, but they will submit waaayyy before that.
Thats a rediculous statement, and I sure hope he doesn't have any dogs.

Dog Training Tools and Advice

  • Hey I see that you need some kind of guid that will give you tips and tricks to help your dog become fully trained and more healthy. Recently one of my friends really needed some advice on how to train his dog. He followed the dog training academy course to successfully have a fully trained dog in a few weeks.

  • You can break a dog's spirit..and unless someone can put this poor broken soul back together, he is almost better off dead. Beating anything can do this..a spouse, your child, and the poor dog. Anyone who does this is an Abuser. and needs to be put away from any living thing! Read about wartime atrocities, and you think a dog could be exempt from the cruelties of a human beast??? Tell your friend if he is doing this to his dog...or his family..you will turn him into the authorities...and do it if he is...PLEASE!!!!

  • I believe that is one of the ways people get their dogs to fight. Doesn't sound like his knowledge is acceptable. Beaten dogs can become submissive but may one day turn on you without provocation. I wouldn't want a dog "trained" that way.

  • no. the only way to beat a dog until they act dead is when they really are dead.
behavioral training is one thing. submission is another.

  • This guy is a nut case im sorry, You should NEVER beat your dog. Most dogs want to please so they well submit to you even if it takes some encouraging. Some dogs well attack before they act dead from fear. This guy i hope has no dogs!!

  • Definetly Not! Unless you want to be arrested! DO NOT BEAT UR DOG! It might be easier to take to an obedience school!

  • He was probably being facetious.

  • Absolutely not.

  • Nooooooo

  • hopefully he was just being stupid in answering you
don't think it can be done

  • Eventually, I suppose that it would stay still out of fear, assuming it didn't react differently and attack.
And it could look dead if you beat it to the point of unconsciousness.

When a dog is attacked by another dog, one way it might show submission is by crouching and making itself as small as possible and not moving. Perhaps that is the response he is referring to. Or perhaps he is referring to the position often adopted by pups showing submission in which they will lay on their back with their legs above them (exposing their throat and belly, and showing that they are not a threat).

Of COURSE this is not the way to train a dog, but you know what? I fear that he meant it. There are some crazy theories that float around regarding dog training.

Dog Health Questions: I'm excited to start a small doggy day care business, can any dog lovers help me with a few questions?

I am at home all day long with no kids. I have 2 wonderful young Shetland Sheepdogs. I live in a large home on Lake Michigan with a fenced in yard. I could use a little extra income but I mainly want to do this because I really love animals especially dogs! I would keep the dogs indoors but would let them romp in the yard on decent days. I would also take them for atleast 4 10-15 minute walks or more if necessary. When it's not pouring or freezing, I'd let them romp along the lakeshore (our beach is private) and go for hikes on nearby nature trails. Does this sound nice so far? I only want to care for small and medium sized dogs because my dogs are a bit intimidated by large breeds and our house is nice and I'm afraid a big dog may be a bit too much. I was thinking maybe a 60 lb. limit. I would require that it would be housebroken (with the understanding that dogs do have accidents!) and have a good disposition. I have separate rooms that I could separate them if necessary if someone's dog has problems getting along like with my dogs which shouldn't be a problem. I was thinking of making nice fliers, business cards, and newspaper ads. I was thinking about starting the inital ads like this:
Does your dog get lonely and depressed while you are at work all day?
Does your dog suffer from separation anxiety?
Would you like your dog to be able to have stimulation and tons of fun while you are away?
I have also trained my dogs for obedience for years now. I'm 35 and have had dogs since age 5. I would also BRUSH THEIR DOGS FOR NO EXTRA COST DAILY! I'm thinking of taking in no more than 5 dogs atleast at the beginning. Now, about costs! What's reasonable?
I live in an area where the average median income is around $100,000. There are a lot to doggy daycares though and some are in their own buildings not just a house! I was thinking this sounds fair!
$12 a day and $8 for each additional dog
I would also do boarding so that would be
$20 for 24 hours. I think this is VERY reasonable and much cheaper than what is offered around here. I was going to make the "main" room in our basement. How could I fix it up to make it look really cute and dog friendly? ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I was thinking lots of pictures and an AKC poster of breeds. Make it nice and clean. A nice toy box. SHOULD I HAVE CRATES????
I don't know. My dogs sleep in their crates ONLY at night and my whole idea behind this is so dogs don't ahve to be in crates all day long while the owners are away! How about several crates with some clean bedding and no doors??? And some cots and dog beds? And a couch. The floor is just an old tile but I thought I could put carpteting in one section so it's more inviting and not cold looking! i also would put a TV down there and leave it on Animal Planet, cute idea???
DO I NEED TO BE BONDED AND/OR INSURED? HOW DO I GO ABOUT DOING THAT?
AND SHOULD I OFFER BASIC DOG TRAINING UPON REQUESTS FOR REASONABLE RATES?
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WHAT DO YOIU THINK A CUTE AND CATCHY NAME MIGHT BE???
I THOUGHT LUV MY PUPPY DOGGY DAY CARE. WHAT ELSE?
Sorry that this is so long but I really need a lot of suggestions. I also suffer from depression and my psychologist said that this could really help me a lot. THANKS SO MUCH FELLOW DOG LOVERS!

Sounds pretty good, try the website meetup.com and start an introductory meet up at your house.

Then you can use ww.care.com and search for people looking for sitters.

I have done both and its working out very well for me.

You can also do arts and crafts for the dogs you pet sit.. like take a photo of the dog while he/she is in your care and create a photo with a personalized paw print on it....

There are tons of name option

Happy Tails
Busy Paws
Wags-a-lot

All of your idea are good, make them all available for the owners that way you have a bertter chance of gettin clientel

Basic Dog Training Obedience - Puppy Behavior Tips

  • You really should post this on sheltie-list.com, and sheltie-world.com. I would call other doggy day cares to see what they charge and ask for advice from them like cost you might not know you need. Check with your home owners insurance to see if they will cover you if you had a dog like a german shepherd, or pit bull. Dogs that are fully potty trained won't have an accident in your house. I would be careful about giving too much free so people don't take advantage of you. I think you should do the crate/bed idea, but keep the doors someplace handy just in case you need it. I guess have lots of toys and things to amuse them. We used to use a radio or tv for our dogs when we worked. I would post this on the web sites I provided as they have lots of good ideas on those sites and could give you good advice. Good luck.

  • First what a great idea. My hubby and I work differnt shifts ie I work days hubby nights because of our dog. He can not handle being left alone not even for 1 minute. Go for it I hope it all works out for you.

Dog Health Questions: I need dog training help?

How do i get my dog to stop barking and stop trying to bite people?

Dog Training Advice - What Or Who Do I Believe?

Recommended Answer:
Make sure the dog has plenty of exercise and attention.
When the dog barks for reasons you do not want him to bark, punish him.
Again punishment for biting.
Bang your feet on the ground to produce a sound and saying no is one good punishment. However you also need to give it rewards for good behaviour.

But dog training school will help a lot.

Crate Training Your Dogs - Ultimate Dog Training Method

  • Well it really depends...barking could be inherent in the breed. Some dogs are just naturally more prone to barking than others. For example, if your dog is a pomeranian, it's pretty much useless to try tell it not to bark, it's a natural instinct for them. Other dog breeds like the golden retriever are not as prone to it. With the biting, it really depends in my experience on how old the dog is. If it is still just a puppy, there is still some time to get it out of this habit. When my puppy used to nip, i would quickly just wrap my hand gently but firmly (so as not to hurt her), around her muzzle, shutting her mouth and say firmly "no bite". She learned very quickly, and now just licks every one all the TIME. Haha. Socialisation is also very important at a young age because usually in most breeds, this can narrow the chance for aggression towards strangers when it is older. But if it is an older dog and actually has aggression issues, I would honestly suggest taking it to a trainer or asking some expert advice. There are many training books out there too that you can get from a library that could help with your situation.

  • punish when they do this reward when they do not do this

  • Obedience classes ?

Dog Health Questions: Can I get a court order to have a dog trained?

My roommate has a 10 month old pit-boxer mix. A week ago, in her usual greeting, the dog jumped up on my six year old niece and busted her lip open. She is not a bad dog (even though some people are wary of pits) she just needs trained. Her owner has said out-loud that she didn't get a dog to have to watch it's every move. We DO NOT want the dog to be put down, we just want to make sure she is treated well and is trained properly. Can my nieces mother get a court order to have the dog trained correctly?

Dog Training - Instructions to Train Your Dog

Recommended Answer:
It's none of your business if your roommate trains her dog. Nor will a judge order the dog destroyed for jumping up. If the dog attacks, it is a different matter, but that WILL result in the dog being destroyed, not trained. Your roommate will also be criminally liable.

It is extremely irresponsible to own a pit bull or pit cross without training it properly. Pit bulls were BRED to fight, that is their default breeding. Yes, they can be perfectly safe under the right conditions and training, but without training it is very possible that under the wrong conditions (which can be a simple as a small child getting in the dog's face) the dog will revert to its genetic heritage. Pits are not just dangerous because they attack it is also HOW they attack, which is bred into the breed. They typically go for the neck, and lock their jaws. It is very easy for a pit bull to kill a small child.

Crate Training Your Dogs - Ultimate Dog Training Method

  • I don't believe so.

I think the 4 options are:

    1) Do nothing and let the behavior continue
    2) Don't bring your niece around the animal
    3) Get a court order to have the animal put down for aggressive behavior and the owner responsible for all "damages"
    4) Call animal control for animal neglect, because the owner isn't responsibly taking care of what is considered to be dangerous animal.

  • Your roommate sounds like another irresponsible pit bull owner. Just what the world needs. You both need to talk. Give her three options: 1. train the dog 2. get rid of the dog 3. move out. This dog is a law suit waiting to happen. If it were my daughter who had been injured I would have sued her for damages. Good luck.

  • Sorry, she can't.
Pit Bulls are dangerous dogs that act on Instinct. No amount of training is going to guarantee that the dog will never bite anyone else again.
Your roomie is an irresponsible dog owner. Pit Bulls have to be watched very carefully.

  • If a dog doesn't want to be trained, a court would have a difficult time enforcing such a ruling.

It's kind of like the advice against trying to teach a pig to count. It wastes your time and it annoys the pig.

  • No. The court wouldn't have jurisdiction to step in to make a dog behave because it misbehaved

  • No. Your nieces mother has no right to request that the dog owner train her animal.

Dog Health Questions: Question about training a dog?

I'll be getting a german shepherd soon. I have a very good understanding of what it takes to train a dog. The german shepherd is probably one of the easiest to train because of their level of intelligence.

I *may* want my dog trained only to respond to commands set out by my voice - not the voice of others. If i tell my dog to sit, then during training, i will use positive reenforcement when he sits when i tell him to. If someone else tells him to sit, and he does, i will not reward him. And I will keep repeating this over & over until he understands that he must do it when he knows his owner, which is me, tells him to do so. Is this a good strategy or is there another way of training them to listen to ONLY your commands?

Dog Training School to Help Solve Dog Behavioral Problems

Recommended Answer:
I'm not sure your method would work. I've never tried anything like you are suggesting, but in my experience the best way to get a dog to obey you only is to bond closely with your dog and ensure that you are the only one training it.

I've always put a lot of emphasis on bonding with my dog: when I get a puppy in the house, I do not leave it for as much as a second the first 3 days. This means that I take the pup with me to the bathroom, it sleeps on the floor next to my bed during the night, basically anywhere I go, the pup comes with me. After that I gradually start home alone training and socialization. At the same time, I show the pup that it can rely on me 100% and that I will protect it and look out for it. I also cover 98% of all my dog's needs: food, play, training, companionship etc. basically to my dog I'm the best thing since raw liver.

My problem have always been to get my dog to obey other people and that's something I've actually had to teach her to do. It's fine that my dog doesn't obey a stranger, but I do want her to obey my husband and also my parents who looks after her here and then. We've managed to get her obedience level towards my husband up to approx. 90% - with my parents it's still only about 50%, which is a bit of a shame, because it means that my dad doesn't dare let her off her leash.

As the owner of an intelligent breed, I just have to add that intelligence does mean a dog that learns fast, but this doesn't necessary equal easy to train, especially not for beginners. Novice dog owners usually have much more success training a Golden Retriever than they do training a Border Collie.

Online Dog Training - Train Your Dog Using Your Computer - Seriously!

  • GSDs are very intelligent dogs and loyal as to their master. The German Shepherd Dog does not give affection lightly and is known for his dignity and stature; it is also known as a "one-man" breed for its tendency to display serious loyalty and fidelity, especially to its owner or main caretaker. You don't have to have someone else to train your GSD for voice recognition as this will only confuse him. Train him the usual way, being the owner or main caretaker, he will only recognize your command.

  • GS dogs are very faithful to their owner .They dont even like to have anyone else watching when they are being groomed.Mine will only obey me .However , for emergency scenarios I have a special word that I taught him, that only he and I know, and he understands that this word means he has to be serious, and that its not a game.If I say the word he looks at me and is ready for any command from ME.

  • It would be much easier to train the dog in a different language. That way no one else knows what the commands are. Your dog won't sit when someone tells him to sit if he doesn't know what the word sit means.

Here's a list of common dog commands in various languages. http://www.uwsp.edu/psych/dog/languag1.h…

  • Honestly, this is a bad idea. What if for some reason you have to rehome him? He will become scared and confused because he knows only to listen to YOU. This could even result in him being put down as 'untrainable' and put to sleep. Why is it so important for him to only listen to you? If he's fending off someone who punched you I don't think he's gonna listen to the other guy telling him to lay down somehow.

  • You're going to confuse the hell out of your dog.

High intelligence DOES NOT mean easy training.

You can use a hand gesture along with your voice so that your dog recognizes both. That way it will be unique...

  • if your the one who feeds and trains the dog then he will probably only listen to you anyway but as reinforcement your idea might work

  • the best thing you could do is not have anyone else give commands. i don't think you need any "method" the pup should get everything from you, and no one else - that includes feeding too.
i do it with my working dog. my house dog, i don't really care, he's a people dog - he wants to please everyone.
anyway - i was at a clinic over the summer, and there was another dog owner who clearly didn't understand the working dog world and you don't interfere with the dog/handler relationship - like not telling someone elses dog to sit or giving any command.
this woman tried to tell my dog to sit, and while doing so had a treat and used the treat above the nose to get my dog to sit. my dog ignored her. he only takes commands from me because he only wants to please me. he can give a damn about anyone else.
most people will not tell your dog what to do, but there are a few that think they can just butt in.

Dog Health Questions: Are Dog training classes Good for a Small Puppy?

Thanks

5 Advisory Tips For Good Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
Puppy training is an excellent idea and it doesn't cost very much. It is about $40 in the U.S. where I am, such a small investment for a lifetime of joy!!!

Although you need to stick with it and continue training well after "puppy" classes!!! You'll be amazed on how much they are willing to learn and make you happy!!!

Dog Training Using Treats and Rewards and How to Make Sure Your Dog Doesn't Become a Treat Junkie

  • Puppy classes give the puppy a chance to socialize with other dogs which is important in their first stages of growing up. Puppies who do not have this socialization can end up with mental problems affecting their wariness to objects, people and other dogs as they grow older. This could cause barking and unsociable behavior.
It is important too that you socialse your puppy with as many humans and dogsas you can when you are walking to combat fear of humans and dogs on a field or in the street too.
Training starts at home with the basic sit, down and wait. You can do this with Small treats rewarding for good behavior and not the bad.Do not expect the puppies attention span to last in a puppy class.
Puppies also need routine so make you home rules now such as not leaping up onto the sofa and bed. This is your domain. The puppy can have cuddles on the sofa on your terms. if the dog jumps up with out asking then you push him down.
Make sure the puppy walks through doors after you and feeds after you and not off your plate while and after you are eating.
Start as you mean to go on and you will a well behave dog

  • I would say just for the fact to socialize them yes. My dog is almost 2 and starting training (i've had him for 3 weeks now) he has never been socialized so I dread tommorrow this will be his 2nd class but the first time with other dogs around (we had to make up the 1st class didn't sign up in time). He gets extremely hyper around other dogs so the sooner you start to socialize them I say the better.

  • I own a Yorkie-Poo. He is 10 pounds. You'd be surprised how good it was for him!

Training is defintlly a good idea!! It increases the bond of you and your puppy. Wait until he's 3 months and you can enroll him in dog training class. He will learn to sit, watch (look in your eye and pay attention for next command), lay, come, stay, and much more!

My puppy recently ran out the door and we live next to a 150 pound dog (not fenced in). My dog ran around and headed toward the other dog. BECAUSE OF TRAINING...I yelled for my dog to "come" and he ran to me. Without training my dog would not have been nearly so responsive and might be dead today! Training helped us both communicate to each other. It helped me learn how he thinks and interpurates my actions. It also helped him know what I expect!

I recommend it for all sizes of dogs. Plus they can learn cute tricks and a dependable method of traning. They learn hi-five, spin, and dance.

  • My 2 Chihuahua's will be graduating Puppy Kindergarten class on Monday (they're 5 months). It's been great for socializing & basic training. They were definitely the smallest in class but it was great for them to be exposed to the bigger dogs. I'd definitely recommend it! Good luck & have fun!

  • They're good for socializing, but don't expect your puppies undivided attention, just make the most of the opportunity and ask the trainer about anything you need help with. It's good for dogs to learn how to behave with other dogs when they're young, IMO.

  • Absolutely! Puppies will learn a lot faster then a grown dog. You have to keep up with the training as puppies will forget just about as fast as they learn. Keep it up and they will be very well trained when they are grown.

  • no, i have seen people do that and at the end, your puppy is very different, the bad kind.

it matters on age. 2-8 months is way to young, 9 months is a good place to start.

  • Yes! You can take your puppy to Puppy Kindergarten classes. It's a good first step for training as well as socialization! Have fun!!!

  • I would start out when they are young. Easier to teach a young dog what is wrong than an older dog that has already learned the behavor

  • Yes, they are very good ...... that way, the puppy learns the correct behaviors at a young age and learns the right and wrong things to do ....... = )

  • You should go to puppy kindergarten ♥

  • puppy training classes are good for 99.9% of all dogs

  • They're great for a puppy! Better to start out young! :P

  • yes there are, nothing can hurt them they just learn things.

Dog Health Questions: Dog Training Tips...?

I have a 1 yr old Boxer/Lab mix who is a royal pain!! We live in an apartment complex, and our neighbors also have dogs. Whenever we go outside for "Piddle" time, and another dog or person is simply walking by, my dog goes ballistic! He knows his basic commands, but will NOT obey them during this time. I've tried working with treats, toys and bones...Nothing works. We bought a spiked training collar that pinches him when he barks, pulls... but that does not work either. Tonight, was the last straw! I ended up on my butt in the snow, trying to hold onto him (While he wanted to bark senselessly at a neighbor walking w/ groceries).

We've tried 3 diff. shock coll

Best Dog Training Books

Recommended Answer:
Was the pinch on correctly? Did you give a hard enough correction? Some owners are afraid to properly use the pinch collar in fear of hurting their dog. It should be a snug fit right under the dogs jaw and behind the ears and stay there without slipping down the dogs neck. Corrections should be enough to get the dogs attention back to you, but not enough to hurt him. Timing is also everything when it comes to giving the correction, look for signs like hackles raising or his attention is drawn to something before he goes crazy. You have to watch for it because it may be something as simple as a glance in the direction which should be diverted.

Is he getting enough exercise too? Boxers and Labs have a lot of energy and if he isn't properly exercised it leads to many behavioural issues.

You have to show him you're the boss if you don't react to another person or dog or anything, he shouldn't either. It all starts at home, you walk through doorways first. You go up/down the stairs first and you eat first. Don't just give him his food, make him sit and wait and he shouldn't eat until you say ok. If you can't manage to take the alpha roll on your own find some help from a trainer.

Abused Dog Training - How to Train an Abused Dog

  • I would suggest getting a professional trainer....?

  • Boxers have a very bad reputation, they are hard to train, i suggest you contact a breeder or the kennel club for some advice and where you can take him for training. You will need to be firm but gentle as you don't want to break his spirit, always have treats with you and when he obeys a command give him one and really praise him. Don't use shock collars they are terrible

  • Your dog needs to be properly socialized. Shock collars will do more harm in a situation like this than good if you understand the behavioral makeup of the animal. It's irresponsible to train via computer, do yourself a favor and call in a professional, even if only to meet once and get some clear direction from someone who's able to witness the behavior and instruct you properly how to handle your dog and his individual needs.

  • It is not only the training aid you use, it is how you use it. especially the timing of the corrections. Get some help from a trainer to help you learn how to correct him.

  • I agree with the last 2 posters on the pinch or prong collar, properly used it is a life saver.
the most important of all is the timing a correct jerk and release should do it, I just trained a lab who would also go ballistic on her owner and pull her every where causing her to suffer from shoulder pain,
after 6 weeks of training the dog no longer pulls and doesn't go ballistic with other dogs or people.

  • KiKeenon is right. If the prong collar is used correctly it will work. It must be put on high on the neck, right behind the ears, not down around the throat. Used incorrectly you can damage the vocal cords.
Please find a good trainer (not Petco) that is probably in the local kennel club. Most groomers or vets can direct you to a kennel club contact.
That's a difficult combination of dog breeds to work with by yourself. Please get help.

  • Obedience training is the foundation for establishing a better relationship between you and your dog. Obedience training helps establish the owner in the role of "pack leader". Obedience will lay down clear behavior guidelines that your dog can follow. A well-behaved, obedient dog is more than just a pet of pride. The difference lies largely in the training, and good training can save a dog's life.

treats that's the way to go dogs love treats and praise small bits when you are training and he gets it right give him one. you need him on a long leash call him to you show him the treat when he come back give him praise and the treat you'll have him eating out of the palm of your hand by the end and he will respond to your commands try carrying treats around in your pocket let him know you have them he wont want to wander to far as he will want a reward unless there is a ***** on heat then he'll want a bit of you know what!!!

Free Dog Training Tip - Proven Tips To Train Your Dog

  • it sounds like you have to catch him in the act and discipline him appropriately

  • Well no electrcity shooting though your body isn't very pleasent. Simple solution put him on a cord. I understand alot od people hate doing that but it is for his own good. My Jack russel would run off if he got out the door with out his lead on and i had to go after him he always came back but one time he was injured very badly and had to take him to an emecancy vet because he was littlerly bleeding to death. Go But a 20 foot dog lead and set it up so you can get him on the lead from inside. I hooked mine up to my antenna tower. Soem people set up a clotes line form teh house to like the garage and put the lead on that so teh dog can run teh yard and still stay in the yard.

  • Some dogs are runners, and really without intensive training there will not be much that can be done to change that. I would recommend keeping this dog on a leash. He sounds quite determined to get out of Dodge.

  • You really need to get a kennel and covered mesh run. The more times your dog manages to escape the more likely he is to keep that behaviour (if he lives that long).
When he is out of the run he needs to be on a leash or inside. It is up to you to prevent him from running away first - by controlling his environment then secondly by training him.
Make sure you take him for lots of walks and start training him the basics, like sit, down, heel, and come (on a longer leash), reward him for every thing he does correctly with praise and perhaps a little food.
If you need help to train him get in touch with your local dog obedience club or trainer for assistance.
Once he knows the basics of obedience and you have some control then you can start training him tricks....

  • I'm not sure why you feel the need to leave the gate open in the first place. The only danger is not your dog getting out, it's other dogs & animals getting in. If your dog can scale the fence then the solution is not electrifying it, it's supervision while he's outside. And you're right, he hasn't been injured yet, but every time he gets out you increase the odds dramatically.

At-Home Dog Training Tips

  • The best way to train your dog to rabbit hunt is to train it with another rabbit dog. There are two styles of rabbit hunting beagle dogs. One chases the rabbits slowly and the other chases it fast. The competition style chases the rabbits slowly, but if you are just wanting to hunt rabbits you'll probably want a beagle that hunts faster. It may sound a little mean, but you'll probably want to have a remote controlled shocking collar on your beagle when you take it rabbit hunting. One problem rabbit hunters have with their beagle dogs is chasing deer. Rabbits normally keep to a small circle about the size of a football field. If you notice your dog, going chasing something that is going on a wider area, then you need to shock it to teach it not to run a deer scent.

Whitetail deer can run in about a 10 mile radius. And if you aren't careful you could be chasing your rabbit dog all over the country side trying to find it. Running deer is a good way for a rabbit dog to get lost or get killed by running across a roadway and getting hit by a car or something.

Dog Health Questions: Can I find a dog training schedule online?

I trained my basset hound with out a real tentative schedule but my pit bull needs more structured training, he does not have behavioral issues, and is generally a good dog, his issues include, jumping not sitting when told, barking out side, and so one. If any one knows of a planned training schedule online, that is like Day 1, do this, Day 2 do this, and so on and so forth.
Thanks,
B

How To Use Dog Training Collars

Recommended Answer:
Each dog is an individual, with individual issues. There is no single recipe of what to do on what day to get a dog trained. They learn at different rates and in different modes. They have different problems. Some dogs are spastic and others are lazy. Some are clingy and some independent. Some learn with a single repetition and others need days or weeks of practice to master the same skill.

So sign up for a basic obedience class.

Dog Training Leash - A Basic Method You Need To Have

    • Browse through the internet and you'll find relevant websites too.

A tip to you though: Should you want you dog to have a better temperament, always disturb him while he eats.

Do it playfully. Start with petting him on the head or back when he is digging in. Once he is used to this shift his bowl a little, to the point of moving it sideways by 6 inches and then push it back.

Eventually the dog will think anyone taking his food away is just playing with him.

All my dogs don't guard food or belonging. The worst thing to happen for a dog is when some children walk by or pick up something from the floor, the dog jumps and rushes over to growl. If you disturb your dog every time you feed him, he won't do that.

Apart from this, all you need to show your dog is praises for doing the right things and a harsh NO for doing something he is not allowed.

A puppy doesn't have good bladder control until he is 5 months old. After sleep, eating, playing he would have the tendency to go as that is the time when his intestines are in motion. So it is up to you to put him in the right spot at the right time.

Should he do it in the wrong place, clean the place well and rinse it with diluted vinegar to kill the smell. There is no need to spend a lot of money on all kinds of dog detergent.

      Enjoy your puppy!

    • You tube has some short training videos just type in puppy training.Gives pointers on teaching to sit,lay down, house breaking, learning name lots different stuff to get you started.I did a lot of research on boxers before I got mine. There are numerous sites on the internet, several training methods offered.Gave me insight on which way I wanted go.I also read some books on my particular breed choice.

    • Congratulations!

I'm very happy you've decided to get a new dog,I suggest you please adopt a dog from a local shelter. That way it will already be trained for you and you don't have to worry about anything. But you have to think,Do you have a good enviroment for your dog?A big enough yard?enough time to play/exercise your dog?If you have answered yes to all these questions then go ahead and give it a shot,Good Luck ;)

    • I would go to a bookstore & look at alot of them & choose the one you like. Some have simpler directions & pictures. Go to Petsmart & Barnes & Noble. Don't buy in haste. Look Around. Look around for discount bookstores like Half Price Books. Sounds like you need the Dog Whisperer. Good Luck

    • Caesar Mullan probably has a book out some where. He's good at training dogs. So I've been told.

    • I believe in TOUGH LOVE. Spank the dog/cat/turtle/lizard/bird/hamster until they get it right.
