Dog Health Questions: Dog training question?

I have a 7 month old Brittany spaniel and he does not listen to save his life we tried training him off the leash and he ran away. Everytime we take him off the leash he bolts to our next door neightboors yard to go play with there dogs. We only have one dog and thats him. I would really like to play fetch with him. and we dont have a yard because we just bought a new house.

Secrets to Dog Training to Stop Your Dog's Behavior Problems

Recommended Answer:
Take your dog to puppy class and get some training. Recall is a very easy thing to train, but if you don't understand what your dog is telling you then you need the training. For now, or until you can get signed up for a class, don't let your dog off the leash. Every time he goes off and you call him and he does not respond, you are enforcing the fact that he is your pack leader. Get a long line (20-30) feet and practice calling him. One call and then reel him in to you. Once he gets to you give him a treat (very small treat; size of a pencil eraser). Do this inside and outside. Never off the leash until he understands he must come when called. Remember ONE CALL, do not repeat, he must come on the first call.
***Go to class, you and your dog will love it!

  • It's probably best to start him on a very long lead. Get him to come to you by giving whatever command you choose with a gentle pull on the lead, praising & rewarding him when he comes to you. Start him with short distances then gradually increase the distance. You might consider an obedience class too

  • if your neighbor lets than let your dog play with the other dogs because your dogs enjoys to do that and also maybe if u go on line u can get a trainer to train your dog
i also recommend not to let your dog off the leash because he can run away or hurt someone and i wouldn't take any chances
