Dog Health Questions: Dog Training, Keeping dog from running over baby.?

My 9 month old likes to walk and play on the floor. My 2 month old puppy likes to play obviously and he likes to run. The problem I am having is the puppy will run and then right into the baby. Or run over the baby. I know keep him out of room and all that are a good thought. But I want him to be accustom to the baby. I do have a crate for the dog and he sleeps in the crate. What are some good training techniques to keep the dog from running over the baby or even trying to steal his food.

A Few Dog Training Success Tips You Need to Know

Recommended Answer:
OK - poor baby! I'm not an expert but I have a large dog who likes to run over my nieces and nephews (not on purpose, just play).

What I'm doing is teaching the kids to be calm around him and not giving him attention until he is in a calm sit/stay. The second he gets a bit rowdy - I send him to his "place". It's a mat in the kitchen where he must go as kind of a time out. Once he's calm, I release him.

When we have food - out the dogs go - to their place so we can eat in piece - that goes for everyone!

Good luck

Dog Training Tips - Training Dogs For Your Own Benefit

  • I would respectfully suggest you read a couple of books and watch some videos on raising and training dogs. Also, I recommend two TV shows, "The Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Millan on the National Geographic Channel, and "It's Me or the Dog," with Victoria Stillwell, on Animal Planet. Both programs are very instructive and often deal with the issues you raise here. Good luck!
