Dog Health Questions: Dog training help? (please read!)?

Hi, I am 13 and own an 11 month old Kelpie/ Cattle Dog/ Border Collie mix. She is a great dog. Very intelligent, easy to train and VERY active (which was expected of course). My problem is, when I just want to play with her, she will jump all over me and bite me. She is not being aggressive but I guess this is her idea of 'fun'. Can anybody help me train her out of this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks (:

Recommended Answer:
Whenever she jumps and bites, ignore her.

Don't say a word to her or even look at her. Just turn your back to her, cross your arms, and look up at the ceiling.

Once she calms down, go back to playing with her. If she bites or jumps again, ignore her again. Praise her whenever she's playing calmly.

She's learned that biting/jumping gets your attention. Even if the attention is negative, like yelling or scolding, it's still attention. You know how little kids will annoy you just to get a reaction out of you? It's the same with dogs. So you have to teach her that biting and jumping gets her absolutely nothing from you.

The most important thing is consistency. You and anyone else in your house, including guests who come over, have to ignore her every single time she bites or jumps up, or she won't get it. You can't let her get away with it even once.

Luckily most dogs learn pretty quickly. Just be patient with her.

Good luck!

Dog Training Tips

  • sharp noises especially for this breed will stop her in her tracks, almost in a high pitched squeal yelp and she will stop, ignore her for a minute, then praise her for stopping, if she bites again do the same again, she will associate the fact this noise means i get ignored.

while she is eating put your hands in her bowl, if she shows aggression take her away from the food.

  • Mistake #1 this dog should have stated traing a long time ago. The dog can't be trained on the computer. She will need to go to a trainer and you too. Yes you need to be trained also. Your trainer is not the one with your dog,you are. Get busy before she ends up playfuly hurting someone.

  • If you want her not to do that anymore, ask her with a commanding voice to do what you want her to do. Also use treats to train her. dogs don't like doing things when there is no prize for them. i hope this helps a little because thats how i train my dogs

  • Don't play games that involve her jumping on you unless you ask her up instead frow a frisbee for her and teach her agility.

  • When she does it, be a tree:

  • she just doesn't know shes hurting you can take her at dog school or teacher her yourself not to play like that that's what i did

  • What are you constituting as playing? If you are rough housing with her.....she's going to rough house with you back
