Dog Health Questions: Dog training help..puppy growls when we try to put him in his kennel?

My 5 month old Anatolian Shepherd is absolutely the sweetest dog, but the only time he ever gets "mean" is when we have to literally pull him down the stairs and push him into his kennel when I have to leave to go to classes, he growls through the whole ordeal like he's about to bite. How can we stop this? We've already taken him to obedience classes and he's a very fast learner and very smart according to the trainer. The trainer also said Bastian is very stubborn (which is a trait of the breed). When I get ready in the morning for school he tries to hide upstairs and when we finally have to put him in his kennel, he has to be dragged. He's going to be a 100+ pound dog one day and we can't put up with this, especially not the growling. How can this be solved?

Dog Training: It's Not Just For Adults Anymore

Recommended Answer:
Get his favorite snack and hold it in front of him and guide him to his cage while he is following you if he follows you he get the treat, if he doesnt follow you you say no! bad dog! no treat! and he doesnt get the treat. Sooner or later he will relize he he wont get a treat till he listens to you. Good Luck!

Dog Training Methods Uncovered

  • he obviously doesnt like the kennel so try some other method otherwise you are setting yourself up to get bit. nothing you can really do about the kennel issue so move on and find something better that will work for him. tether him outside with a nice doghouse and a heated pad (made for outdoor use and water proof) so he is warm. or lock him in a room gate off the kitchen or bed room so he cant jump it.

  • Your really make this dog think he is the pack leader. You need to put him in the crate and whenever he is aggressive, say CHHHHHHHHT even more aggressive take him down and put both hands on him like a pack leader would do to a misbehaving dog (only with his paws of course).

  • He has to be dragged?? lol... anyways, you can show him that you're the "boss" or you can put some food or something that he likes in the kennel and while he is occupied with that you leave...

  • Training is the best investment you can make in your relationship with your dog.

  • start putting him in the cage more often...very simple.

  • depending on the dog he may have had bad experiences with a kennel previously. best means that would probably work is rewarding him every time he goes into the kennel. Treats are always a great tool, but you do not want to over use them. you say the kennels downstairs, maybe bring it upstairs once in a while where everyone is and let him explore it himself. depending on the size, even sit in there and encourage him to do the same, make it comfortable, with a nice mat and even a favourite toy or treat. only a few tips, but hopefully they work. dont rush, good things may take a bit of time.

  • I deal with these problems all the time. First off i would move the kennel into the room he hides in which i would assume is in your bedroom. You may also want to have him sleep in is kennel but keep the kennel in your room so he is calm and still thinks he is there. You can also get a few treats and give one to him so he goes to his kennel and then one when you lock him up. You may also want to feed him his breakfast in his kennel. Then you can play with him upstairs. another suggestion is get him a few more toys and play with him more in the morning so he is tired when it is time to go into the crate. Also try leaving him out occasionally to see wat happens. Finally come home inbetween classes or at lunch if you can.
