Dog Health Questions: Has anyone ever used this dog training collar for their dog? how thick is a Boxers neck(the skin)?

its called the SPORTDOG SD-105S YARD TRAINER its for stubborn dogs. i have read a little bit about it and they say its for dogs over 15 lbs. so i guess it will work on a boxer. also does anyone know if a boxers neck the skin is really thick like an Akita's. the only reason that im looking into this collar is because my dog is very stubborn and doesn't listen to any of my commands i even hired a profesional trainer to work with me and him and the dog wouldn't even do what the trainer asked. so im at my wits end with this and im wanting to get this collar and try that.

How to use the Remote Dog Training Collar

Hoping you won't use a shock collar on your dog. Boxers are stubborn, but they are smart, too. Have you tried a clicker training class? Many boxers are very responsive to this type of training. Search the internet for a local boxer rescue group. They can be very helpful in giving you suggestions to help correct problem behavior in a more positive manner.

Dog Training Tips for the New Dog Owner

  • Yes. It will work for him. The 15 pounds is a minimum. The great thing about this collar is the tone option. This way the collar isn't always a must, because he will begin to associate the tone with correction. Some collars even come with two different sets of prongs on the collars, one longer than the other for longer haired dogs.

  • An Akita has very thick hair which is why the collar may not work on an Akita. This type of collar has to be very tight to maintain contact with the skin.

Are you the pack leader or does your dog run your life? I think before getting a shock collar you should look into other options like a different trainer, obedience class, and gentle leader. The shock collar should really be a last resort.
