Dog Health Questions: How do i train my dog loosie to walk beside me unleashed?

loosie is a 9 month old tiger stripe terrier.shes very smart and learns quickly however,my skill as her trainer is limited. she can sit, fetch,lay down and stay. thats all i know about dog training. help please

• The most important reason for keeping your dog leashed is control. When you're dog is leashed, you let him know that you are the one in charge and he should listen to your commands. And if they are unleashed then they are the ones on control and they might do anything they want like run away, fight with another dog or simply lie down. Dogs understand this concept. So for their safety, yours and others you should keep the dog on the leash when going out.
  
  The dog has to know that you have all the control and you're the one who can tell him what to do and what not to do and he shouldn't be pulling you around. For this simple training all you need to do is walk the dog inside the house. Put him on the leash and walk around the house with him. If starts pulling you or getting excited about something stop walking until he stops. After doing this a few times he will stop and surrender to you because you're in control. Now you can them for a nice walk and they will behave when they're leashed.
  
  You want to show your dog that you're in control as well even if he's unleashed or inside the house. He must be able to respond to your commands and your calls such as “Go out the house” or “Get in the house”. • if u don't live on a busy street just walk her up and down without the lead on and whenever she tries to run put her on the lead, make her sit and tell her NO but when she does behave give her a treat and she will soon catch on!! :)
