Control Your Aggressive Dog With These 4 Dog Training Tips

How long have you had her? Are you sure she knows her name? One way to get her to stop ignoring you is to use treats. Sit near her and call her name, if she comes to you give her a treat, if not move a little closer and call her name. if she looks at you, give her a treat. She also might not have respect for you, you could try holding her on her back so her stomach is exposed for a few seconds at a time or until she holds still. Slowly increase the time she is on her back (it is a submissive gesture, it should make her easier to handle as she gets older). Come is one of the basic commands. Attach a long rope to her collar, say come and lightly tug on the leash, when/if she comes give her a treat and do it again, make sure to not push it too much, if she won't do it after a few minutes you'll get frustrated. If she won't do it tell her to sit or lay down and give her a treat. Most importantly END ON A GOOD NOTE otherwise she'll hate training and make it that much harder. Stay is also a good one but I don't usually teach it so I don't know much but you can attach a long leash to her collar, say sit or lay down and stay, hold your hand out, take a step back and if she stays say good girl and give her a treat, do the same thing again but take 2 steps back instead, reward the same way, slowly increase the distance, if she gets up say ah-ah(or your correction word) and back her up to the same place and start again but taking the same amount of steps back. In order to end on a good note you may have to decrease the distance a little.
hope this helped. The most important thing to remember when training is to have patience, she'll get it eventually!!!
Understanding the Differences Between Various Dog Training Courses
- So she's only 4 month's old...this is still a very young age. It can be quite frustrating at times..but if you want this dog to listen to you and understand that you are in charge..then you cannot get mad...you cannot let her do whatever she wants. Dog's don't speak english and only see frustration as weakness on your part. Usually, it's better not to say anything at all and give a stern facial expression..dogs read body language. Her energy level is probably incredibly high, she's got all sorts of new things to encounter/smell and wants to search the world and trust me...she is willing to please if she knows that you are in charge. She also needs mental stimulation via things to chew on and exercise - get her a black kong for playtime and monitor this. Here are a few things to get you started in listening/recall and putting yourself in the dominant position: When you feed her, get her attention..hold the bowl over her head and make her sit and only feed her when she has calmed down...use treats to get her attention while she is wondering off, start working on her recall - say her name and get her attention then give her the treat and repeat this process while gradually increasing your distance. Once you've mastered her recall then you can get her attention..she is ignoring because she has so much stuff to smell and look for..you have to stay in control of this and give her boundaries. Once you portray yourself and the leader then she will follow you. Take her for runs/walks and drain her energy out..then start working with her, she will be more attentive to you. Get her to follow you around and praise her for it, make a game out of it and play with her and she will be more responsive to you. To be honest..it sounds like you are letting her do whatever she wants and not stepping in front of her and controlling her. Get enrolled in an obedience class and they can give you great tips for working with her. Good Luck!
- Teach your dog "watch me" by putting a treat near your face and telling her to watch you. When she looks at you give her the treat.
Basic commands your dog should know are sit, down, and stay.
Sit is by far the easiest. There are a few ways to teach it but the way I teach sit is by using a treat and put the treat close to her face then move your hand back. She should sit down. If she does give her the treat. After this is accomplished add the command.
To get your dog to lay down put your dog in the sitting position. Take a treat and move your hand to the ground in front of her. She may stand up to get the treat. If she does, put her back into the sit and try again until she lays down. Once she does give her the treat and then add the command.
For the stay command I like to use a leash at first. Get your dog to sit and the and put your hand in front of her face and say "stay". Walk only a 1-2ft away and have her stay for a few seconds. If she stays praise her. If not, put her back into the sit until she stays. Practice getting farther and farther away. Then try without the leash. - well when u want it to do somtin buy puppy treats and if u want it to come say here puppy or the dogs name and hold out the treat and if it comes give it the treat and thats basically what u have to do to have it listen and not ignore u
- People often have problems controlling their dogs, because they are not consistent with their commands. Dogs do not understand the English language or any other language; consequently it is important to be consistent.
I have heard people command their dog to sit, then when it fails to do so they say “will you sit” when that does not work they might shout “for goodness sake sit. The variations for this command go on and on. Unfortunately they also use several commands for other things that they want their dog to do. You must always use the same command for anything that you want your dog to do and remember that dogs do not understand sentences. - There is so much you need to understand, to learn. It would take days and days to answer you in detail......
1) You need to get a grip on your emotions. They will hinder your training.
2) Puppy is only four months old. Labs are late maturers.
3) Change your way of thinking. Rather than thinking "my Lab must want to please me", flip it around to "why would my Lab want to please me?"
4) To train a dog, you must have its attention and focus. So, what attracts a puppy's attention and focus? Treats, toys, fast movement. "Fun stuff". Play. These are the "tools" you use in your training.
5) You should be focusing on "building a bond" with your pup. It is your job to understand "who" your puppy is, understanding how to get him to understand and comply to your wishes. Making him want to be with you.
6) Find training classes. Really. For you to learn how to train your dog happily and correctly. The trick to training dogs is in your head. It is a mind set. The classes are a small investment in your pup's future as your companion.
