Dog Health Questions: Good breed for a first time dog owner?

Well not exactly "first time".
When I was 8 I had a beagle and we had to give it away for it's own good to a good owner that could train it.
When I was 10 we had a jack Russell, again gave it away because of it's health problems (skin condition).
I'm 13 now, mature, researched the breeds, will enrol in dog training classes. So this will be my first proper dog. What dog would you recommend? It needs to be large ish. Like as big as a Labrador/husky/golden retriever.
It's definitely not going to be given away this time.
Thanks xx ;)
Ps: I have an annoying family and annoying 8 yr old brother.

Finding the Essential Dog Training Supplies

Recommended Answer:
A Lab, Retriever or Collie are always good choices because they are generally smart, easy to train and patient with younger children.

Service Dog Training, Teaching Dogs to Assist the Infirm

  • A dog from a rescue group or shelter, that is full grown, and has at least some training.

You need to make sure this dog causes the least possible disruption to the household possible, or it may be given away too. Puppies chew and need a lot of attention and time, getting them fixed is also expensive.

Good luck, if this dog is given away too, do not even think of getting another. 3 strikes you are out, no more dogs for you.

  • A good all-around large breed dog is the golden retriever. They are easy to train, will do anything to please owner, loyal, and super loving. There is some coat care and they shed, also they need daily exercise. Look for a well-bred dog--no inbreeding or puppy mills to avoid common health problems that can become concentrated in a small gene pool such as seizure disorder, malformed hips, and cancer.

  • I would say a Labrador they are great animals fun, loving. They are big so they need exercise but who can't benefit from walking the dog everyday. They are very easy to train to, they seem to meet you half way.

  • You shouldn't have given your dogs away because they're problematic. You suck.

  • I would say for sure a golden retriever. They are very easy to train dogs and are very family friendly.

  • golden retrievers are very friendly
