The Dog Training Things You Should Do and the Ones You Shouldn't

Recommended Answer:
Any dog can be mean and attack it if isnt trained properly.

You just need to socialize the dog well, get him used to many people, dogs etc. Dont keep him isolated. Also if it will be male, get him fixed. most of the GSD attacks you saw are probably from schutzhund..the kind of work the police dogs do.

You really should not worry, just do research on how to socialize puppies.
UNLESS the parents have bad temperments, then you may have to work harder with your puppy.

Free Dog Training Tip - Proven Tips To Train Your Dog

  • Why not check out a library book or dig deep into the internet on training. The secret to a well loved and liked dog is "training." Even if you are a beginner you can learn to train with a mentor or enough books read to start training your puppy. Unless you are willing to go the extra miles and learn about what it takes to care and train, feed, groom, vet care etc. I would wait until you are ready. Just because someone is "giving away" a pup doesn't mean you should get one. Do your research and find out just how much having a puppy costs. The figures will amaze you.

  • The only reason you see a lot of German Shepherd attacks is because that is what people want to read. You will also see a lot of "pit bull" and Rottweiler attacks because that is what people want to read. I've seen more Labradors, small dogs and Goldens that are aggressive but no one is afraid them, any dog could be aggressive and attack if they aren't properly trained and socialized. . If the Shepherd is well socialized and trained then it could be a very friendly, well balanced dog.

  • If you are scared of the dog, don't purchase one in the first place. Chances are the dog will sense your fear in the end and take advantage of it. On the other hand, German Shepherds are a wonderful and loyal breed of dog.

They are very much devoted towards their owner and do well around smaller children. Just as any breed of dog needs.. training is a MUST.
Not only does it teach your dog this and that, it keeps them in line.

  • If you have never trained a dog, please don't start with a German Shepherd, especially since you already have misgivings.
You also don't have to take a class to train a dog. Read Don't Shoot the Dog! by Karen Pryor for positive reinforcement training tips. She's brilliant and the book is well written.
