Dog Health Questions: Husky puppy potty training problems?

I have a husky puppy who is now about 5 months old. We have been crate training him since we got him when he was 2 months old. hes often on a leash so that he cant go to his favorite spots to pee. his water intake is controlled and if he does have any mistakes, he is interrupted, told NO and then taken out to finish his business. also, he is taken out about once every hour whether he asks or not. The problem is he doesn't ask in anyway to go outside. if we take him outside he will go, but if he has to go inside he will without asking to go out.

Hes going into dog training (he would have been already but im moving later this month and i didnt want to start something then have to leave half way through)

Any suggestions on where i can go from here?

Learn More About Some Of The Best Ways To Begin Dog Training And More About What Not To Do

Recommended Answer:
i just got 2 greatdane puppies and they had the same problem !!
but this is what i did:
ok so i went to the store and got some puppie training pads
then u have to get your puppie to learn to pee on them
once they get that concept put the pad like two feet away from the cage
then by a weak he will get that point to pee on it and not in its cage
once he gets it you move the pad like 2 feet away from where it was last time but this time closer two the door and each time just move it closer and closer to the door and eventualy it will reach the door and then you put it out side the door and your puppie will understand that hes supposed to pee out side the house and he will also learn to wait at the door when he has to use the bathroom

i hop this helps it worked for all of my dogs :)

Dog Health Questions: Teach your dog to come?

Yup. Me again. Me the dog trainer asking a dog training question.... I went to a Sally Palmer class for my dog and he learned everything (at the CLASSROOM or one day later, cuz he learns so fast!) except Come and Heel. Heel Isn't a biggy for me. When I start walking he stays by my side and (awesomeness!) never goes after rabbits or deer or anything else for that matter, when he's on the lead. He onlly perks up his ears, but he stays by my side. He's SO awesome at that. So I have two complaints.
    1. How do I teach him to Come whenever I call? I tried the on the line, let him wander, call, reel him in. Or throw a ball, then say come, reel him in. But our two Border Collie mixes are SO smart that they only get jerked back ONCE and they won't go after the ball. They'll just stay there. So then I tried throwing treats. Not working well either.
    2. I failed to metion he goes nuts on the line and WON'T stay by my side if there is another dog. I think that is because whenever we see another dog, his BROTHER who is a (sadly) TERRIBLE walker will lunge ahead towards it and I think Snapshot is copying him. Snapshot is the best walker. But his bro Diggity IS Smarter..... So I wanna know if come willl cut it on that.
    3. he is NUTS about balls! If he sees a Tennis Ball....oh boy... How do I stop this...almost...obsession?? I worked on it a while ago till I could roll it, bounce it and throw it on him and he would ignore it. But he won't take his eyes off it when I throw it accrose the yard.
Thanks you so much! You don't have to answer all, but at least one.

I have some of the same problems with my dog (except he's not so nice when he sees a rabbit) and what i did was teach him to sit and stay and once he was good at that i got a treat and made him sit and stay. I wouldn't give him the treat but I let him know that i had it. Then i walked away making sure he stayed and then i called for him to come. He came and sat. i fed him the treat and i repeated those steps until i felt like i didn't need the treat anymore and he still comes. try using the same hand motions because my dog responds well to the hand motions i always made when teaching him come. I hope this helps!

Shock Collar Dog Training the Quick and Easy Way

    • Start with the come command and give him a treat every time you say it. Than throw the tennis ball and say come if he comes he gets a treat. than use treats less and less often. and only reward him by petting him saying good boy. But be sure to throw treats in there once in a while. Worked with mine hope this helps.

    • Show your dog some porn, that should make it come.

    • take him to a dog school to train him

Dog Health Questions: Dog Training Tips for "Down"?

I taught my dogs to sit. They're good at that, but now I've been trying to teach them "down". The way I made them go down is I say "down" and then put the treat on the floor, and then they dive for it. There, they went down! But, if I just hold the treat in front of them and say "down" they don't go down. How do I make them lie down?

The Benefits Of Dog Training Classes

      Recommended Answer:
Keep it up! Perseverance is the key. Also, do they know 'leave' or 'wait' yet? If they do, get them to go 'down by holding the treat on the floor, but then use 'wait' or 'leave' before giving the treat. That way - hopefully - they will learn what down means.
      Good luck.

      The Importance of Dog Training

      • If luring doesn't work you could try capturing it.

Go to a quiet room (bathroom works for us). Wait until your dog lays down, mark (click, if you click train) then reward. Toss the treat, so the dog must get up and go get it.

Repeat. Once the dog is dropping to get the treat, add the cue right in front of the behavior. Click then treat.

With a little practice (increasing distraction, distance, and duration but not all at once) you will have a really nice down/drop.

      • This worked on my beagle but not my pitbull so good luck if yoy try it...

Put the dogs leash on, then while moving the hand with the treat towards the floor (they should follow the treat) pull the leash down as well while saying the command. once they are lying down, reward.

      • make your dog sit 1st. Show them the treat & say down and slowly bring the treat to the ground still holding it. Once they are in the down position that you want praise & give the treat. practice for a while and pretty soon it will work without even showing them the treat.

      • Put one dog at a time in a Sit then put a treat by his nose then slowly bring the treat down to his paws and bring it in to you. Slowly! This will lure him into a down position.

        Practice makes perfect : )
