Dog Health Questions: My husband loves his dog more than me?

My husband purchased a dog within a week of us getting married. I understand having pets as I grew up with a dog. He works and drives about 80 hrs a week and has been working like crazy since he got the dog over a year ago so I took care of a puppy who ate everything in my house and crapped everywhere. It barks all day in the yard and never listens to me. I walked it every day and spent my weekends going to useless dog training classes as she only listens to my husband. The dog very cute too and this is not the dogs fault. I know he's a dog lover but he never has energy for me but can take the dog everywhere, kiss the dog before me and play with her when he comes home from work and kiss her in the morning before he gives me a kiss. He rolls around on the ground with it all the time, likes it laying on his bare chest, always has it sitting on his lap and cuddling it and kissing it. He pits it against me. I want time with him without the dog and he calls me jealous. I take care of a dog that I don't even want. He doesn't treat it like a pet but rather a girlfriend. It's gross and I think it's dirty when it's all over him. I resent it so much. He always wants quality time with his dog but never me. The truth is that within a year he has maybe walked the dog 3 times and that's only because I asked him to go for a walk with me then he wants to bring the dog then I say forget it as I want some of his time without the dog, then he ends up leaving me behind and takes the dog for a walk and I'm on my own again. He has cleaned up the dog poo in the yard maybe twice since the dog came. If I saw any of this before I married him I would not want to be with him at all. I feel tricked and I am really resentful. I don't know if I can handle 12 more years till it dies. Am I crazy?

7 Important Dog Training Tips For You

Recommended Answer:
nope, your husband has issues and no offense, but the dog doesn't respect you bc you don't respect the dog. You better treat that dog like a dog and correct it when it gets out of hand.

From Simple Dogs to Guard Dogs - How Guard Dog Training is Done?

  • no this is what you need to do right now he has a dog and you are taking care of it so he doesn't have any responsibility with it at all from here on out give him all the responsibility with it until he starts doing it

  • People who don't take care of pets always love them to death.

  • That's bad. Maybe you should be a furry and see how he reacts. At least, that might get the message across.

  • No,your not crazy.

  • What kind of dog?

  • A dog should not be bought if it cannot be raised properly - its your husbands dog, he should look after it! As the years go on, your dog is going to end up more and more unmanageable. Tell him to get his act together and teach the dog properly, or else hes going to have to find it a new home.
You're the one who has to deal with it barking and not listening to you.
And the reason your relationship with the dog is not good (apart from the fact you have to fight for affection) is because the dog obviously doesnt see you as an alpha.

Apart from the dog issue, is your relationship okay?
If the man is not prepared to listen to you about the puppy, then perhaps there are deeper issues.. I couldnt spend my life with a man that doesnt take me seriously.

    Good luck x

Dog Health Questions: Dog train question. when my dog smells the treats she goes crazy?

right now i'm trying to teach her to sit and anytime i get the treats out she is all over me trying to get them. What am i doing wrong? AS soon as she does that i try a couple times to get her to pay attention but once it's clear she isn't going to i put the treats up. Cuz if i would them them to her that would just make her keep doing it. What should i do to get her not to flip out at the smell of treats so she will get the learn the trick so then she'll get a treat?

A Long Tradition of Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
use something not so appetizing, or wait until after she had had a walk and a meal.
training is best done with some dogs when they are more tired.

you don't HAVE to use food as a reward, either. i don't reward with food... then my dogs expect too much- sometimes petting and attention is enough, and some dogs have a favorite toy they'll work for.

use "cookie zen". if the dog didn't earn the treat, then it doesn't get it.
a dog NEVER gets a treat if it goes all crazy.

set the treat on your hand, palm open.
when the dog goes nuts, close into a fist.
when the dog settles down, open the fist.
it takes practice, but it works.

Dog Training Hand Signals - 2 Important Commands You Can Teach Today

  • don't do it continuously.
tell her to sit if she does that give her a treat. then try it in 1 hour again. if not they are mostly crazy about the treats and the wont pay attention again

  • well maybe don't get the food out tell she sits or whatever you want her to learn, maybe if she has a favorite toy, you can us that. If she will on do it for food, make the smell on your hand show her theres nothing in your hand then say sit

  • I recommend taking an obedience class.

In the classes I teach the first thing we talk about is getting your dog to focus on you and when the treat comes. We use a marker to tell the dog when the treat comes helps them to understand that they need to do something to get the mark to get the treat.

I'd also use a correction word (or a negative marker, like no or ah ah) to tell your dog she is doing something wrong. if she stops her "bad" behaviour mark and reward.

Walking her before training is an excellent option as well. The walk helps to get some energy out.

Clicker Dog Training is Extremely Reliable and Can Be Done by Anyone

    Recommended Answer:
www.youtube.com has tutorials on training a puppy. Please train them to NOT jump on people when they walk in your door. My friend's dogs jump all over me when I visit her, and it makes me not want to go to her house. I have asked her to train her dogs and she does nothing about it. (I think she likes it that her dogs jump on people, which is sick) Her dogs have scratched me so bad that I have scars from it. Give yourself a pat on the back for being a progressive dog owner. I wish you the best!
