Dog Health Questions: What's a good positive dog training program? Thinking about getting Tamar Geller's book.?

We have an 11 week old Yorkie/Bichon. I'm not into the whole Cesar Milan dog whisperer thing.

I agree completely. There are a ton of good books out there, but the most useful source by far in training my puppy is this website. Sue Ailsby, known as Sue Eh? Put her whole training book online for all to see. Go to this http://www.dragonflyllama.com/%20DOGS/Le… link and scroll down to introduction. Read the whole page, then go look at level one, and start training. She uses a method of positive training called clicker training, though her methods can be adapted to lure and reward and other methods of positive training. There is also a really good Yahoo! group where you can ask any questions you have about the levels, and the author of the book is often chatting in the group. Hope you at least take a look and happy training!!!

Dog Training Advice - Tips That You Can Use

  • The art of raising a puppy.
Best book on the market. I used 11 years ago, I have the best dog in the world.

  • I'm honestly not into the book training. I personally like to have a training program where it will get socialized and you can have one-on-one training if needed. And if something doesn't work for your puppy, they can find another way rather than a book doesn't really give you options. That's my opinion, good luck! And have fun!!!!!!!!!!

  • Trust me Cesar Milano knows his stuff. The best way to train a dog is to find a toy they love more than anything else. Give the dog a command and assist it into the position and as soon as the dog gets into the position throw the toy and praise him. Using a toy and your voice doubles the fun and encourages the behaviour. Repeat in short sessions several times a day. When starting any command do not work any longer than 5 minutes.
