- Not sure what kind of training are you seeking.
But, when i first got a dog, I used this book -->> Teach Yourself VISUALLYTM Dog Training by Sarah Hodgson as my guide. Full of pictures and great explanation, I think it would help for beginners!
I followed what the book says and it's quite effective. But results on how fast your dog learns the trick would vary. The key word to training your dog is always "practice, practice and more practice" - Training is the best investment you can make in your relationship with your dog. You'll need to do your homework first, though, to learn how to communicate what you want in a way that your dog will understand. Stay consistent and patient, reward your dog for getting it right and remember: you can train a dog of any age.

Ask yourself, what do I want the dog to DO, rather than not do?
You get what you reinforce- if your dog is doing something you don't like, how is the dog getting reinforced for that? How can I set things up so that the dog is getting reinforced for behavior I want and not get reinforced for behavior I don't want?
