Dog Health Questions: Dog Training Leaving our 10 acres?

My 2 dogs like to go run in the ditches & won,t come when called. We have 10 acres with property all around & 8 miles from town. They get in trouble for killing a calf, which they didn't do. How do I train them to stay in our 10 acres?

Aggressive Dog Training - Expert Advice

Recommended Answer:
Collar and leash training till they are 100% obedience trained. Otherwise use a zip line, a tie out, or get an outdoor kennel & run.

Loose dogs can be shot by farmers if they are bothering the livestock. Why take chances with yours if they do not stay on your property.

How to Understand Your Dog by Using Good a Dog Training Manual

  • If your dogs have a habit of leaving your 10 acres how do you know they didn't kill the calf? I'm assuming it happened while they were inside or at least under your direct supervision.

Anyway, dogs that wander can be difficult to train. If your dogs don't have an impeccable recall then you'll have to fence or leash them when they're outside. If they have a great recall but wander when left unsupervised, then supervise them. It's generally considered a bad idea to leave a dog outside unsupervised, even behind a secure fence, because they find all kinds of ways to get into trouble.

As for a dog that just stays on the property, a lot of this boils down to sheer dumb luck. Luck of the draw in getting a dog that simply doesn't have that kind of wanderlust. If the dogs aren't neutered, consider neutering them. Wandering is often related to the mating drive and a little snip can completely eliminate that. Or it may not.

  • Hey, I see you need some sort of guide that will give you tips and tricks to help your dog become fully trained and more healthy. Recently one of my friends really needed some advice on how to train his dog. He followed the dog training academy course to successfully have a fully trained dog in just a few weeks. He told me he would recommend it to anyone, so that's why I'm passing on the information.
