I saw a TV series when I was a young kid called 'The Littlest Hobo' was a german shep dog that didn't belong to anyone, but used to travel around by itself & always ended up saving someone in each episode...Maybe there was a movie made of this & the series was a spin off from it...The series was made in B&W...So fairly old series I'd think.
