Dog Health Questions: Potty Training?

My dog Sasha is pooping everywhere and my other dog Cece is potty trained because she went to a dog training school. We can't afford to do that for Sasha. So could someone send me a link or a writing about how to potty train a teacup yorkie. By the way Cece is a 2 year old shiffon(shih tzu mix brussels griffon) and my other dog Sasha is a 2 month old teacup yorkie. If you need info about those dogs ask a question about these breeds and I will be there to answer it. So please help me potty train!

Do's and Dont's of Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
I also got a puppy and it was qite bad with his blader here is how i tranied him. Here are the basics of a simple potty training routine for a puppy.

1. Take him outside (and stay till he's done or a long time has gone by with no results): As soon as he wakes up in the morning (You don't have to be awake.. much!)

Right after his breakfast Right after his lunch Right after his naps Right after taking him out of his crate Right after his dinner Right after any snacks of much size

Right before his bedtime

If he whimpers in the night

Praise him in a cheery voice when he produces.

2. Only feed him and give him water when you can take him outside right away. Especially in a hot or dry climate, you would normally never let dogs be without access to fresh water, but for the weeks that you are training, this limitation will speed up the potty training process for your dog. There will be fewer accidents and so the dog will more quickly learn what you want. But use your judgment about any risk of dehydration.

3. When he does pee or poop where you don't want him to, quietly clean it up in a matter-of-fact way. This isn't a time to talk either loving or annoyed talk to him; essentially ignore him while you do the cleanup. Certainly never yell or physically punish him in any way.

4. When you and he are both home, keep him with you as much as you can, whether at your side (a leash can be handy for this once he accepts it), in a confined area, or in a crate, or otherwise nearby. (If you are crate-training, do keep the puppy in the crate as little as possible.)

Also everytimes he Pees Or Poos wgile out give him a treet and praise him he will soon learn that it is toilet tiem when he goes out.
Hope it helps =]

Dog Training - More on Dog Training Hand Signals

  • I would like to comment on Point 1 that ILoveJelly has made. I think you need to be aware that...

You should not immediately pull the dog away and go home once the dog has pooped. Believe it or not, the dog will actually DELAY pooping so that it can spend a longer time outdoors. They are really really smart. Instead, have a time frame like 25-30 minutes, regardless of whether the dog poops or not, bring it home.

  • Well, I dog-sit for a lot of my neighbors, but out of all the dogs I've ever watched, I have to say that the best behaved ones that I've met are my neighbor Gene's. His dogs have never disobyed me, they don't take off and not come back, they don't beguile the furniture, thye ae pretty much perfect little angles. The program he uses is the dog-whisperer program. Yes, I know, it sounds completely stuck-up and cheezey, and if i hadn't have seen it work so well in action I probably would have written it off as complete nonsense just based on that lame-name, but it really does work. Now, you don't have to go waaaaaayyy into it and buy the special dog-whisperer food, and leash, or shampoo, but the actual training part of the program works wonders...anywho, i'm done babbling on here is his website, he also has a show on the national geographic channel

    website in sourse

  • Well i have a 13 yr old Golden Retriever and she is very smart (Knows hot to sit, laydown,High five and roll over in a row!.)

Sit- Grab a treat an make her sniff it and make the treat get her attention and grab the treat over her head so she can make her head pull back and TADA SIT!

Lay Down- Try making the dog to learn sit first after you get it right then have her sit and then make attention with the treat and put in the ground and cover it with your hand and wait until she gets her whole entire buddy down and when she gets it say lay! TADA

Roll Over- After she has got lay down right then make her lay by just saying the word and grab her attention with the treat and roll it besides her head kind of how you did it with sit only that sideways!

GOLDEN RETRIEVERS ARE VERY SMART! MINE IS REALLY OLD 13 YRS OLD AND VERY SMART!

  • The most important thing to teach a dog is basic obedience before anything. Tricks follow after obedience is accomplished. I suggest signing your puppy up for obedience classes to start

Dog Health Questions: Is there a place (in NH or close) that will let you rent a dog agility room?

I want to rent a room to teach my dog/train my dog for agility. Is there a place that has rooms to rent for say and hour or something if you don't have your own equipment. Anything would be helpful. oh and I live in NH so somewhere around that would be nice. a website would help too. Oh and somewhere where you can buy your own cheap equipment would be AWESOME thanks :)

A Little About Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
You might want to take a class or two first if you have never trained agility. Contact your local kennel club for what's available in your area.

The 5 Best Dog Training Tips For You and Your Dog

  • The majority of places will require that you take classes with them, or have extensive knowledge and training on the equipment prior to allowing you to use their equipment.

This is because when agility is not trained properly, it can be extremely dangerous for the dog. If they let a beginner just do what they want, unsupervised, the dog could get hurt and the beginner could sue.

Here are some places/links that can help you get started:

Dog Health Questions: I wanna start a service dog training business?

After I finish Burgin University of Canine studies I want to start a service dog training business (a small one) Does anyone have any advice, instructions, coments etc.
Especially about licencing, I dont know what I'll need to licence get inspected or anything else.
Oh yeah n I live in Alaska so if u know anything about licencing in Alaska tell me.
Cause ofcoarse ill have to breed my own dogs. And i think that needs a licence, but i dont know how to get any licences.
AHHHHHHH!!! So confusing. So, if anyone knows the tiniest smidge about service dog stuff id love to know. THANKZZZZ!

Dog Training Methods - Different Ways to Teach Your Pet Dogs Some Useful Skills

    Recommended Answer:
I cannot tell you about the laws in Alaska as I don't live there. However, I do know about dog training businesses and not just training service dogs. Some questions:
How many dogs have you trained?
What did you train them to do?
Were these dogs very reliable in their training ie bomb proof?
Have you trained dogs for other people?
Have you ever trained a person to do something that was difficult for him to do?
Have you been around disabled people?
Do you understand the needs of the disabled population and how having a service dog may improve their quality of life?
If you cannot answer these questions with experience and knowledge, your best bet is to start working with someone who trains service dogs as well as someone who works for the population of people that you are trying to serve. Remember you each dog comes attached to an owner. so you need to be able to relate to the people that you are trying to teach how to use a service dog.

    Dog Training Tools and Advice

    • Sorry, I don't have the answers but, isn't that what B.U.Canine studies will teach you? They would probably be the best resource for answers!

    • These are questions you should ask your instructors at Bergen. I would think most of what you are asking should be covered during your courses.

Dog Health Questions: What are your thoughts about "fear-based" dog training?

My ex and I have joint custody of a dog. We started using Barkbusters (www.barkbusters.com). Our dog experienced more anxiety (one of our biggest issues was separation anxiety). I had never heard the term "fear-based training". Now I am even more confused, as is our dog.

Advanced Dog Training Goals - It Pays to Think and Plan Ahead

    Recommended Answer:
"Fear-based dog training" went out with the stone age. No reputable trainer would use this method today! Find a new trainer ASAP and hope they can undo the damage that has been done. Look for a trainer that uses positive reinforcement (reward-based training methods -treats,toys,clickers,etc). Your dog will respond out of a desire to please you... that is their greatest motivator. Having said that, some aversion training can be effective if positive reinforcement does not work (this explains the unseen fence, citonella collars, spritzing the barking dog with water, etc.) But FEAR is something you NEVER want your dog to feel...ever!! Find a new trainer today!!!!!

Using a Dog Training Harness to Train Your Dog

    • Fear based Training? Da . . . FEAR! how would you like someone to instill fear in you when you have a emotional problem already. You must seek help with someone who does not use fear or any sort of harm. But understanding and compassion.

    • i agree with the others. Fear-based training is a terrible method. Instilling fear in your dog makes it more likey to 1. bite you 2. have anxiety towards visitors 3. be attacked by another do who could hurt/kill it.

    • yes, pressure the dog until it bites you. how dumb.

    • well just think about how a child would feel, if he was bad and he had to learn from somone scaring the crap out of him. its your call, but if barking is the problem, maybe fear isnt really the answer. good luck

    • Well, 90% of dog bites are a response to fear, not aggression. So do you really want to instill fear in a dog? Probably not.

      Find a new trainer ASAP.

    • Fear has no place in dog training..

    • Fear based training is very very bad.
