Dog Health Questions: Dog training?!?

I have a shih tzu/ coton de tulear mix! It is about 2 years old. It is verrrrryyyy hyper most times and is easily DISTRACTED. i need to know a good way to teach him simple commands like sit, lay, shake, up, down and drop but its really hard! He only knows sit and that is if i have a treat for him! I love him to death but i want to teach him these things. If you have any good sites or if you know anything please tell me.best answer gets IMMEDIATE TEN POINTS thanks again!

Positive Reinforcement Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
Hold a dog biscuit in your hand and make a movement and say sit (slowly bring your hand up like you're weightlifting) and then if the dog doesn't follow the command push the back of the dog (butt) to the floor and praise them and give them the biscuit and later on they will do it once they see the command or hear sit. It's the same for the rest except for like lay you hold the biscuit between theirs legs and they lye to eat it.

Dog Clicker Training vs Compulsion Based Dog Training, Which is Better?

  • Obedience classes. Your vet will recommend a good one and they will help you teach your dog to work through distractions. Good luck.

  • Best place is a local training center....

She will learn to work around other dogs and with lots of distractions

  • ok i have a 7 month old chihuahua the very small type and he is just like your dog, hyper as can be. So it will take time, and patience, but get small training treats from your pet store, and lead him with the treats to do what you want out of him. First off just manuever your hand w/treat to sit, lay, or whatever, a couple times, then start adding the word sit, lay, down etc....Once he hears the word he will think oh, thats what you want me to do. Then after you know the dog has the training down, do random treats, for example only give him treats every so often, after that you can stop giving treats for everything you ask him to do.
