Dog Health Questions: Is it illegal for a minor to charge for services in Los Angeles?

I'm 14, and want to have a dog training service [basics, etc. really, really cheap. mostly doing it since i want to spend time with dogs]. I'm asking in this category because I'm sure you guys are more keen on the laws and all that.

Dog Training Mistakes You Should Never Do

Recommended Answer:
It's legal.

(And no, there's no license required in CA)

BUT.. you won't be able to buy insurance, and you must notify your customers that you're a minor.

Dog Training Hand Signal - Train Your Dog To Sit With Only Showing Your Hand

  • I think if I were you, I would be afraid to be the owner of my own business, even at 14 someone will sue you.

  • It falls in the same category as babysitting. So no, it isn't illegal anywhere in the country.

  • You can charge for such services, you'll just have to make sure you report your earnings to the IRS. And since you're in California, you'll probably need to be licensed to provide the service, and that might be a problem at 14.

Something that you don't have to download a free trial or buy. Something semi-realistic or something? Do you know of one? I'm thinking of Dog training, or just a virtual Dog. A little more realistic than www.Furry-paws.com

Guard Dog Training

  • Ok im sorry but this isn't really a question.Maybe you shouldn't have posted this......No offense it's very helpful for dog owners but not a question....

  • What?

  • so... what is the question???

  • For the puking, he is going to be just fine, it's totally normal for them to eat it.

As for the rest, what?A lot of dog food is SO bad, just like eating Mc.Donald's every day. Dogs don;t eat rice, where on earth do you think they find it and cook it in the wild, I mean honestly?? They also eat rabbits, Guinea pigs, sometimes a rat or mouse, birds, not so limited!

"only feed your dog dog food and nothing else". Wow, that is SO sad! Do you know what dog food is? It's cooked, dried crap food that they have to eat every single day for the rest of their lives! Is that what they eat i the wild? NO!!!! They eat from fresh killed food to rotten carcass of a diff kill, so NO, variety is good for them! It;s good for us!

    So, I hope I helped!

Oh, and as for the bathing, if you have a short haired dog, if you bath so many times the color of the fur can actually wash out, like in Dobermans. Plus, it dries out their skin. If you have a long haired dog then yes, once a month.

Dog Health Questions: My dog bites other dogs...?

I have a Staffie who is about 1.5 years old. I have socialized her since we got her at 10 weeks old. She goes to dogs training and to day care during the week. Only thing is she has started fighting with other dogs specially at day care which is strange because we are there so it's not like she is trying to protect us. I was told that after she has fought she goes and sits in a corner looking very ashamed. Please help as I have never had a dog that fights before (and i have had Staffie's before).

Dog Training Made Easy - Find Out How

Recommended Answer:
the thing with american pit bulls and staffers is they were bred to be fighters it is in their blood to fight Other dogs. you may have the best socialized pit or staff and still have to be careful around other dogs.you cant expect a dog in these two breeds never to fight if you do have one that never got in a dog fight its whole life you are lucky. trying to deny that they still will be tempted to fight is just lying to yourself it would be like expecting a hound dog to never be interested in hunting or a herding dog never be interested in herding. its just what their original purpose in life was and sadly still is sometimes.

i have owned a few american pit bull terriers while i was growing up and one staff. some never fought other dogs most did get into at least one fight. usually amongst themselves when no one was home to watch them so we had to crate them individually when we left. we never had more then three dogs at one time though we mostly fostered them.

i currently have one american pitty and he does excellent with other dogs but that doesn't mean i am going to ever let my guard down around other dogs especially strange dogs and i always carry a break stick with me cuz you just never know what can go wrong. im not anxiouse or nervouse when he is around other dogs im just aware if the potential danger.

Dog Health Questions: I want to start my own pet buisness. What should I do to start?

It's going to be a buisness of dog-training, dog & cat grooming, pet boarding, animal rescuing, and fish, birds & reptile sales. I'm planning on getting a professional dog-training cerficate within a year. What else should I do? Where do I start? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

    Recommended Answer:
After getting your certificate, use it to earn as much money as possible doing your own private thing. After saving up a lot of money, lease out a decent-sized building and turn that into a buisness! Ask for help and support from trusted friends and family if you really need it. Also, lots of experience is best!

    Old Fashioned Dog Training

    • That sounds pretty hard but if you aren't going to do it where ever you live and you don't have somewhere to do it I would suggest trying to get a place to buy for it but you will have to save up it is pretty pricey. Just save up for ALOT of supplies and everything. Make a website when you have almost everything done. You need employees unless your just going to do it yourself. Start small and build up. Try to look up some dog styles for grooming buy some books maybe or look on the internet or just go to other groomer places and ask for some tips. You will need everything you got to do this it is a pretty big thing ya know. I hope I helped and I wish you luck! Maybe I will actually visit your place if you get it doing because my dog Harley is filthy and he needs a good groomer. Good Luck!!! ^_^

    • start out small i personally believe your trying to start out way to big, do you have certifications in grooming? how many years of experience, how would you deal with a lice out break brought into your shop if you plan on grooming? getting an IPG cert would be a start for the grooming, and keep in mind, if your grooming and its only you, you have to be able to do them fast enough to make pay for your supplies and your time if you plan on making money from it. if you had outside groomers, what would your requirements be? how are you figuring their wages? half of what ever the shop charges is average "wages"

Dog Health Questions: Dog training question?

Yesterday, I bought an 8 week old puppy. I am asking different ways to train her how to go to the bathroom? I am crate training her, but am wondering (I live in Ohio) how long should I keep her outside during the winter time to train her to go to the bathroom? I have been doing 5 minutes and if she does not go, I still bring her in. We then go out about an hour later, but she may have already went to the bathroom...Also, while in the crate, she is whining very much...I understand she is a puppy and I told my wife not to let her out because she has to get use to it. Granted when she is whining at 2am or 4am, I let her out to take her outside to go to the restroom...We are taking her to a professional training site, but not until January...Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Find Out How To Prevent Your Dog From Becoming Too Aggressive By Using Some Dog Training Skills

    Recommended Answer:
Five minutes may not be long enough for the pup to potty. However 2 months is plenty old enough to start training. the first thing to remember about house training a puppy is there ability to hold themselves is limited. a rule of thumb is they can hold "it" usually 1 hour for each month of age. 2 months old = 2 hours, 3 months old = 3 hours, etc. when your puppy wakes up (morning, nap, whatever) the pup has to go, right then! take the pup out. when the pup eats or drinks, it has to go, take the pup out. after exercise (play), take the pup out. when the pup does it's thing outside praise it. a lot. tell the pup how good, how smart it is. you have to pay attention to the pups "looking for it's spot" behavior. when you see that behavior indoors, whisk the pup out. if you catch the pup in the act, simply tell it "NO!" and whisk it outside. if you find a puddle or pile after the fact, clean it up with an enzyme cleaner (pet food store) get a newspaper and hit.... yourself in the head and say "i should have been paying more attention" daytime training they get pretty fast. night time training is easier if you crate train the pup. also remember the one hour/one month rule. you will have to get up through the night to take the pup out. good luck

Dog Training Basics - Avoid These Five Common Mistakes

    • Five minutes is NOT long enough!
Eight wks. is NOT old enough.
Letting it out at 2AM is *TEACHING* it to train *you*. STOP IT!

It can only be started to learn housebreaking-it'll take weeks...months...

    • The best thing is to get on a very set schedule. You can pretty much count on about 15 to 30 minutes tops after the dog eats or drinks she will need to go out. Then set other times to take her out. Always first thing in the morning and the last thing at night.
The crate should he a good place for her. You do not want her to learn to hate it, so you might want to try different things to make her happier when she is in there and crying. Remember she is still very young. She might need some added attention.

    • You need to get your puppy on a feeding schedule, if you know when it went in you can predict when it will come out. Also she needs to go after waking up, after playing, or doing anything exciting.

You should take her outside for 10-15 mins, if she doesn't go bring her in and try again in 10-15 mins. Repeat until she goes.

You don't want her going potty in the crate, this is going to hurt your training immensly. You need to supervise your puppy and watch for signs she needs to go. Sniffing, circling, and restlessness are signs its time to go out. If she can't be supervised she needs to be in her crate.

Praise her like crazy when she eliminates outside, this will give her the message that this is the place to go.

Your puppies bladder and bowels aren't fully developed yet, and she can only "hold it" for a few hours. Pups often need night time outings until their bladder and bowels mature more. You can help lessen the night time outings by feeding her last meal a few hours before bed, and taking up her water a couple hours before bed as well.

Housetraining takes time, patience, and supervision.

    • Take her outside after she eats. (usually around 15 to 20 minutes), and when she wakes up from her many naps. Praise her like crazy when she goes!
You say you're crate training her, but from reading your question, I'm getting the impression that you're keeping her in the crate most of the time. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If that's the case, don't do it! You say she is whining while in the crate. She is obviously awake, so why keep her crated? Even at a young age she needs socialization. You have a puppy that has just been weaned, so you are her new mommy now. It's natural for her to want to be with you. She feels safe with you.
Always keep in mind that her crate is her "safe place". Never use it to punish her or just to get her out of the way. She will learn to give you your space in due time.
I'm very familiar with your weather up there!
On very cold days (as long as it's not icy or the snow is too deep), I'd still take her out for about 15 minutes. She'll learn very quickly to do her business and go back inside where it's warm.
Good Luck, and good for you for taking her to training!!

    • unfortunately, with a puppy, you have to walk them on a leash until they go. most dogs are fine outside and as it gets colder, your pup will figure out that the faster she does her business, the faster she can go back inside. if you are concerned about her getting too cold, invest in a sweater or jacket for her. She will still need to go out during the night, but make sure she has a good long wakl before bed. Sorry, I know it's going to be hard this winter, but if you wait until spring to get house training underway, you'll be cleaning up lots of messes! Get her on a regular feeding schedule and that should help some.

    • Oh Geez. You never put an 8 week old puppy in a crate "to get used to it". You never leave an 8 week old puppy in a crate to "whine". You do not want to allow 'trauma' to the puppy especially if it is under 12 weeks old. Trauma is being separated (ostracised) from the pack. You are the pack. You can crate train and potty train, but you have to do it on the puppy's schedule and cycle it so the puppy is not traumatized. Puppy will eat, potty, play, potty, sleep, potty, repeat. When the puppy is sleepy, you can slip her into the crate. If your crate is small enough you can tote the crate around with you with her in it ... she must see you and you must be able to reach in and pet her. I put the crate on the bed at night with my arm in there ... they go to sleep until they wake up for potty. As soon as you take her out of the crate she should potty, then eat or play, then potty again then be sleepy. It doesn't take but a few minutes for her to find a potty spot, so five minutes is adequate. If she does not potty, then your timing is off.
You also need to be aware of socilizing. You have a window up until 12 weeks. Stimulate, stimulate, stimulate is the key. Do not feed out of the same type container nor in the same room. Take her places where other dogs have not been potty (disease) and other dogs won't be around her (disease) to expose her to noises, buildings, environments, places, people, other animals (horse, donkey, sheep, ducks, chickens - let her smell and notice they are alive then pick her up and take her away), noises, and walking over survaces. You cannot leave her at home to do this. Every day at least one place for one thing.
Take her for professional training after she's 12 weeks but you don't really need to until 6 months. In the interim you can teach her to come when called for her favorite treat or toy and you can also play with her to look at you for a treat or a toy and build that into sitting to look at you for treat or a toy.
She can be long-lined at 6 months for correct heeling.

My friend has a 3 1/2 month old puppy that is getting a little out of hand. I am certified in dog training, but she doesn't even know how to get him to come to his name. Does anyone know of any good books that cover: play biting, house training, down, and tricks. He is a mini Australian shepherd. This book needs to be detailed and very clear. This is her first dog and she has no idea what to do with him.

Dog Health Questions: Help with hunting dog training?

I have a young black lab who we call buddy. He is a major spazz out and i need some advice. I have no use for him to be a bird dog so i decided that my dog should learn how to elk hunt. I know it is unusual and i realize it is gonna be an *** buster but i would like to take a crack at it. I need him to be quiet and not chase the elk. Can anyboy give me some good starter tips on how i can do this? And when i can do this (if i need to wait til he is older) . Any and every opinion is welcome.

Therapy Dog Training - What Are the Various Methods of Obedience Training For Dogs?

      Recommended Answer:
I think you have ruined the dog already with lots of playing and encouraging him to spazz out and bounce off the walls. Hunting dogs are not pets. Its serious business with them...in the field and back to the kennel.

You will scare away all the elk when he takes off chasing them and will not listen. Leave the couch pet at home. I have seen this so many times I lost count........

Send-Off Dog Training Versus a Dog Obedience Training Video

      • Since most labs are retrievers, you need to get him on some kind of fitness program. Make sure the it involves dragging heavy weights. You man need to supplement his diet with high protein and excess calories. You also need him to heal without a leash and to sit quietly by you without moving. You might be better off with an Australian Heeler. You could turn him loose from the back of the truck, sit down in a chair and wait until he rounds up a herd and brings them to you.

      • When you hunt elk, do you want him to be a pointer or a retriever?

Go to an obedience school and start out as a kennel tech (glorified kennel cleaner) and ask your employer if there is any room for advancement. Perhaps they will train you to train dogs I know that you have already some expertise in this field. Perhaps you could go to a center where they train helper animals. Or a deaf and blind school or other place where such disabilities are dealt with. That is all I can suggest to you good luck.

Myths of Dog Training and Dog Training Solutions

        Recommended Answer:
My opinion, go to some dog classes. petsmart has some really great classes. They are a good price and they help you train your own dog using positive reinforcemtn.

Go to the store and purchase some bitter apple spray. This you can spray on yourself where your dog is biting and it will taste bad to the dog and he will not want to bite. You can also yip like a dog in pain and that should detere him as well.

To get him to come to you. Get a treat he really likes. like boiled chicken, or hot dogs. cut them up really small like the size of the tip of your pinky. THen any time you want him to do something and he does it or gets close to it give him the treats. Call him with a high pitched excited treat and give him crazy attention and treats when he comes to you. I hope this helps. I would really look into classes though. My dog went to classes at petsmart and he's great. Good luck.

        Small Dog Training Tips

        • Hug him, love him, and yes give him the nices little dog house. Make him feel he is your best friend.

        • Your best bet is going to be contacting a trainer in your area and working with them to solve your dogs issues-- Sounds to me like this dog in being dominant over you and thinks he is the boss--You might also try a search on the interent about the NILIF *nothing in life is free* program.. Good luck

        • you need to check with your vet. maybe it needs fixed. maybe you abuse it, that happens to a lot of abused dogs

        • Go online and look up Training tips, then find yourself an obedience training class and take your dog to it. 9 times out of 10 it's something you are not doing right. And if you want a well behaved dog, you have to learn how to help it be a well behaved dog. I took my German Shepard to obedience training and it was the best thing I have ever done. I found the things I was doing wrong and learned the proper ways to correct his behavior and he is three years old now and the most awesome dog anyone could as for and anyone that owns German Shepards will tell you they are hard headed, and slow to mature. They act like puppies well into adult hood. So ask yourself, is it worth paying a bit of money and a bit of time one day a week for a life time of joy? I certainly thought so!

        • talk in a stern voice the command that you want him to follow and when he does praise him and give him a treat. If he still doesn't listen buy a shock collar and discipline him.

        • First of all the biting, there are many ways to prevent this. If the dog bites you, you should firmly yell NO! Make sure your voice is loud because tone is crucial. This will let the dog no that it has done something wrong. The dog should stop biting soon if you do this.

The barking you will just have to deal with. barking is not wrong to do for a dog. Unless it is a mean bark or growl. If the dog growls or barks meanly at you, you should once again yell firmly NO! Growling is unacceptable especially for any dog that weighs over 70 pounds. Big dogs can bite peoples hands off! PLEASE do not try to take a bone away from a fully grown dog. This will only lead you to a trip to the hospital or vet.

As for the coming to you, you need to make sure the dog knows that your in charge or the alpha. In doing this you should have a time every day where you get down on the floor with the dog. You should lay on him/her and try not to let the dog move. As soon as the dog whyns you should stay on him/her and pet the dog. Talk soft and nicely this will let the dog know that you are in charge and to listen to you. Please try not to hurt the dog when doing this, you do not need to put all your weight on the dog just enough to hold him/her down. Also you should have a time everyday where you go to the park or your backyard and call the dog to you. If the dog comes congradulate him/her. If the dog doesn't come make your voice louder and louder until the dog does come.

          Good Luck!

        • The best thing to do would be to give him as much love as you can. I don't think that you are doing anything wrong, but the previous owners (if there were any) may have mistreated, neglected or abused him. Just spend your free time with him and make him feel at home. Also, teach him that you have the authority. If he bites, give him a firm (not hard) smack on the butt and firmly say "no". The same for all the things he may do wrong. Also try to teach him positive things such as "sit" or " shake". And praise him. So you are not always sating "no". If nothing works, take him to a dog trainer and get them to help one on one. Oh and if your dog is female then pardon the "him/he"s. Good luck, and remember, never hit hard, never yell, and praise for good things.

        • easy. your dog is in charge. and you let him be. you and your family need to establish who's going to be in charge. everyone needs to correct undesirable behavior. don't let it on the furniture, don't let it beg, when you walk it don't let it drag you down the street (the one in charge leads). if it hasn't been fixed, get it done. if you don't walk it, start walking. this could be frustration and boredom. try watching CESAR MILAN, the DOG WHISPERER on the National Geographic channel and check out his web site.

        • Keep your dog active. Go for walks spend more time with it! Be consistent with your training.

Dog Health Questions: Petsmart or Petco for dog training classes?

I took my little girl, Ruby, to beginner classes at Petsmart. I loved the classes and she is a very smart dog because of them. We recently got a little boy, Wyatt, and I want to take him to classes as well. However, I want my fiance to go this time, so that he understands better and can be fully effective in the dog training. The problem is, is that we work opposite shifts and we may have to go to Petco because Petsmarts schedule is very full until April.
What are your experiences with Petco and do you think it would be a good idea to go there? I really enjoyed Petsmart and am sad we won't be able to go there. If you have had training experiences with both that would be great!!

Dog Training: Pro Versus Self-Trained, Which is Best

        Recommended Answer:
As a professional dog trainer for over 16 years, I have to tell you my strong opinion that you AVOID these group classes for obedience training.

These pet warehouses are there to get you to buy their products and hang around their strore. And their trainers are their employees...never forget they have an agenda.

Most of the trainers have very little education--if they had actual training and skills they wouldn't be there making just over minimum wage--trust me on this.

But even if they did have experience and talent...a group setting is a terrible place for learning to take place. It's distraction training and it is the LAST phase of training not the first. You wouldn't have your child try to do their homework in a toy store, would you? Of course not...the level of distraction would be too high! It's the same with dogs.

Having said that, these classes can be an excellent way to socialize dogs...but not to train them.

And while they appear to be cheaper than a professional trainer...you have to attend many more sessions to get the same results because of the poor learning environment--so you wind up spending MORE money for less training than you would with a professional.

Save your money and go to someone who actually knows how to train dogs. OR, read books and try to train your dog yourself. There is nothing they train at a Petsmart or Petco that you can't do yourself with a couple of hours of reading.

        Good luck.

Top 10 Successful Dog Training Tips

        • first you schould go to bolth places and bring your dog and talk to the trainers and see if your dog likes it there. it is important that your dog is happy when you train

        • I'd just start training him until they have an opening

        • petsmart absolutely

        • I am a Petsmart Trainer and our program is great. But I agree that you really need to meet your specific trainer. Not all trainers are created equally.

Petsmart is trying to save lives of animals and prevent them going back to shelters by making training your dog affordable and fun.

          Avoid any "send away" camps....

If you go with a private trainer... ones who "claim" they have more experience... just remember they are basing themselves off their own standards and don't always train in a correct and humane way.

If they put a choke or prong collar on your dog right away... they are sadly mistaking on their training techniques.

Socialization is a very important part of a dogs growth and development. And group classes are a great way for learning. I teach both group and private, and the group dogs always tend to do better!

Look for reward based training programs and just remember... your dog cannot speak English and are probably smarter than you think.

I am not sure about what Petco trainers must go through to become a teacher so do some research and ask questions!

        • I would go and meet the trainers, before signing up for the classes, if possible. Also, watch the trainers during a session, to see if you agree with their training.

I know that where I live, the Petco trainers aren't that great, especially one of them, which is just borderline abusive!

        • The best thing to do if you are unsure about Petco is to meet with the trainer and ask questions that concern you. Also see if you can sit in on a class, even if it is without your dog. That way you can get a feel for their training techniques, since you are already familiar with Petsmart.

        • I have never took my dogs to training classes, but I worked at Petco for several years during my teenage years. It doesn't necessarily matter which place you go to. You just have to look at the actual trainers. Because all use slightly different technics and won't be the same from store to store even if you compared to different Petco's to each other. With my experience from the trainer at my store they were very good. Good enough I have never had to enroll my own dogs in training classes because I picked up so many helpful tips I could do it on my own. I am pretty sure you will have a good experience no matter which store's trainer you will pick.

        • i would go...meet the trainers or maybe sit in on a class and see if you like it...if you do i dont see a problem in going...

i am planning to take my yorkie, Petey, there as soon as i can

        • I don't think PetSmart does that. Try PETCO!

        • I think it would all depend on the trainer, make sure you see good qualities in the new one like you saw in the old one. And you can train your dog at any time, i just saw on myth busters where they trained two 7 year old malamutes (who have the rep. of being stupid and impossible to train).

Dog Health Questions: Dog training...she sits before I give the command (she must read my body language???). Good or bad?

Casey is two. I adopted her from the Humane Society. She had no training so we're working on stuff. She anticipates a treat and sits before I tell her to. Should I do something else? Also, she has a gazillion toys yet chooses to dig my underwear out of the hamper to play with. Do I just shut the door to the laundry or can I train her it's bad and how?

        Hi there,
First thing first keep her from your laundry basket and if she steals your panties like my Champ scold her with a firm voice shaking your panties and say "No Panties...No Panties" I am being serious but LMAO at the same time :) My sister in law's dog had 3 surgeries (2 for eating her panties and once for eating a bamboo skewer) . To say the least after $5,000 in surgeries she keeps her panties locked away - either that or she stopped wearing them... ewwweeee
Also, As for the sitting tell her she is a good girl for sitting and reward her with affection only. Then ask her to lay down or ask her to give you her paw and reward her with a treat.

Funny story - my friend's old dog would sit - lay down -and roll over the second she saw my friend grab a treat & she would continue to do it until she was given her treat. It was hysterical :)
Sometimes our dogs are well mannered and enjoy sitting at attention. She maybe asking for another job to do ;)
        Good luck.

Dog Training Basics - Some Tips to Help You Start Training Your Dogs

        • good, because she doesn't have to be told what to do

        • I use my voice as a last resort so it is very good that she can read your body language.
Continue doing what your doing, its working!
          But don't over use treats.

She likes the smell of you!
The smell in your underwear is stronger than other clothes because it is much closer to the skin.

Shut the door so she can't get to it.
The only way to stop her getting to the underwear I can think of is to put something that does not smell very nice on your underwear to musk out your smell.

          ADD-
Don't use a treat every time she does what you want but don't stop using treats all together.
If she doesn't know when the treat will come but knows there might be one she will do carry out the command.

        • Good and bad.

Good, because she is obviously learning good manners.

Bad, she is anticipating the treat. Now you need to throw in another command. When she sits, reward her verbally, redirect on another command (down, heel) and reward with treat with accomplishment (and even near accomplishment).

Don't know what to tell you about the underwear other than put the hamper where she can't get to it.

        • i think its amazing how she understands u and sits before u give the command, ive been trying to teach my dog that for a year now and its not working. and about the underwear deal i think its better if u shut the door to where ur laundry is ,they love to go through anything that smells bad. my dog used to get in my cats litter box instead of playing with her toys ,its more of an adventure to them.

        • OOoo the hamper issue is something you deal with too? I love coming home and having our undies all over the living room floor. Makes it feel like home! We have a walk in closet, so I usually shut the door so she can't get in and drag them out. I just think it's easier to work with that right now while we're training on other things.

Wean her off the treats. Have you tried clicker training? I absolutely love it (after Zoey stopped running away from the clicker!). Then you can associate a good thing with praise and petting instead of a treat. However, if you want to do traditional methods, they work just as well also. I just enjoy clicker training because it seems to mentally stimulate my dog more. Work on things associated with Sit. Our dog will automatically sit when she's around us (maybe because she wants a treat?) and we have several tricks that she's learned from the Sit position. These include "bang," shake left, shake right, high five, high ten, bear and down.

Just some suggestions, not an expert..just a fellow owner!

        • This is called stimulus control. If the dog is reacting to body language and you want her to only react to voice cues then you don't reward the dog for doing something you haven't asked for. Once a dog knows a command you don't want to reward every time anyway, you go to a random reward schedule, this actually cements the response better than a treat every time. Why not take a training class or read some books. This is a dog that wants to work for treats which means you can teach it lots of behaviors if you understand how to do it. There are some good books here
          www.fearfuldogs.com/books.html

Regarding the hamper action, you first need to stop her from doing it by making it impossible for her to get at them. Don't go the punishment route with this dog, if it's a rescue it probably does not have a solid understanding of what people want from it, and you don't want to damage your relationship. If shutting the door works, then shut the door. A trainer can give you ideas about how to work with this behavior, but don't start yelling or hitting the dog, in case anyone recommends it.

        • OMG!!! Your dog has the telepathic, telekinetic, mind-reading powers of a magical and powerful genie mind-reader circus performer!
          * faints *

          *cries *

        • Lol, I know just what you're going 'thru, PK! Frankie will go 'thru his entire "repertoire" in anticipation of a treat! If I tell him to "sit" he's already sitting by the time I finish saying the word. If I say "noooooo..." by the time I finish saying "sit" again, he's already sat, laid down, rolled over, & tried to shake hands/paws! I'm not exaggerating at all! Here's what I do:
If I tell him to "sit" & he's already done it before I finish telling him to & has already gone on to "down," I tell him, "Nooooo, SIT Frankie" & I move away from him a bit so that he has to get up & sit again. As soon as he sits, I tell him "Good boy, Frankie, GOOD "sit!" He's such a little smarty-pants, I've been teaching him hand signals along with the words, & we've been working on a "dance" together, lol! Have you seen the video of the Golden retriever "dancing" to the song in the movie "Grease?" You probably have, but it's one of my all time favorites. (Goldens are my favorite breed) Anyway, so far he weaves in & out of my legs like the Golden does, lol. As for the knickers in the hamper, I'd just close the door for now, until she has a little more obedience training under her belt. Good luck & have fun!

        • I think she likes your scent. Maybe she is a mindreading dog! I think you should enter her in that national TV show coming soon. She must be a special girl! Enjoy her.

        • Try working with her on new things like shake, speak, dance, stuff like that. she is understanding now if she sits that she gets a treat so that is why she does it almost automatically. Good luck.

        • Well, it seems to me that she's a smart dog. U spoil all ur animals mom.... that's y she does that. I'd shut the door and tell her that's it's bad to do that. Ur the animal whisperer anywayz.... so, yeah. lol. Well, i guess I'll cya. Hope that helped.

        • Very good and honestly dogs seem to love stuff that smells worse than they do, so how could she resist your underwear?
