Dog Health Questions: Dog training problem?!?!?!?

I have two dogs, that are very well behaved I never have any problems with them, they sit, they stay etc. anyway i do however have a problem with them when i take them outside. When we got out side they stick right around the area that i am in and they do just fine until they see an animal or a person and then they take off in a dead run after them. They never bite or attack anything they just are interested in it and want to play with it, but when i yell at them to stop nothing happens. They act like they don't hear me at all, there is nothing i can do to stop them. What can i do?

Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
make you more interesting that they won't want to go investigate.

instead of just walking with them take there favorite toys play with them, play chase ETC. they will then find you more fun and interesting that they won't care who is around.

also take some favorite treats and when you call them and they return praise them so much and give them a treat each. usually when one comes back the other follows

How to Incorporate Dog Training Into Dog Play and Exercise!

  • "Outside" training starts on the leash. You are going too fast and it is DANGEROUS.
Late Entry : thanks for the shitpoits. perhaps you could'd spent that time on research.

  • Practice the "come" command
Do this by positive reinforcement. Take them outside to an area secluded and bring plenty of healthy treats... Let them play, and in the middle of them playing say the dogs name and then come IE "Spot come!" When they do come (((be patient, it will take them awhile, encourage them to come by showing them the treat or saying "treat"))) hand them a treat and praise them like they saved the world. Do this a million more times and eventually they connect "COME" to yummy treat! That way when other dogs or animals approach and they run off yell "SPOT COME" and they will turn around and come get the treat...worked for mine and we have two dogs as well they did the same thing

  • Dog training is done in a small steps. First inside of the house without distractions, then mild distractions then outside. Always on a leash so that you have a control. Get a 20 foot leash, one dog at the time and practice commands, reward the heck out of them when they listen. Dont yell and get mad, they dont listen emotional pack leader, stay calm and assertive.

  • Hi!

You need a full and proven dog training program.

"SitStayFetch" is one of the most popular dog training products on the market written by Daniel Stevens, an experienced dog trainer, for every dog owners who know that the experience of training their dog has or will continue to establish a better relationship with their four legs friend.

First when I read SitStayFetch ebook, I was surprised at lots of information has been covered. The 186 page book is broken down into different sections step-by-step, each one dealing with a different aspect of dog ownership. SitStayFetch starts from a basic that dog owner should know. For instance, things to consider before adopting a dog, choosing the right breed, dealing with breeders, the secrets of dog training; and then moves on at common dog problems including biting and nipping, aggression, jealousy, digging holes, disobedience, separation anxiety, fights with other dogs, destructive behavior and even understanding how your dog thinks.

The core of SitStayFetch system is the communication between dog and owner. Daniel Stevens understands that most of common dog problems are from the lack of communication. Your dog simply doesn't understand what you want. SitStayFetch demonstrates how dogs communicate, what are they thinking, how you can communicate with them effectively.

This simple technique helps in improving the relationship between you and your dog. And it also doesn't just focus on one or two aspects of dog ownership. SitStayFetch deals with all common problem behaviors, step-by-step approach tells you exactly what to do and when to do it.

SitStayFetch works because of the tips and advice come directly from the author's real-life experience. You also can sign up for free 6 days mini course which covers selected training methods and behavior fixing methods that are used in SitStayFetch ebook.

So if you want to have a good relationship with your dog and get rid of dog problems, I think SitStayFetch will definitely help you reach your goals.

Check my source, hope it helps. Good luck!

Dog Training - Three Stages of Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
I don't think your school would let you bring any animals into the building other than a fish or something else that couldn't get away. You may have to change your subject. If you have access to younger children in your school film a piece on how to teach a child to read, or their colors, or something like that. If that won't work, try cooking something, painting or drawing an object, using the computer, solve a math problem, or what to wear and what not to wear to a job interview. I hope these suggestions help you out some.

Dog Health Questions: Dog training Question?

Ok earlier I posted a question on what to teach her and how to teach her, someone posted how to make her learn "sit", it said get one of my dogs fav. treats, and cover it with my hand and tell her to sit,but it doesn't work all she does is scratch at my hand trying to get the treat. So please can you help me,I just wanna train my doggie,If it helps she is a famale Chihuahua.PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TEACH HER

Dove Cresswell's Dog Training Online Review - Is This the Best Online Video Training Program?

    Recommended Answer:
Here's a page about teaching sit:
    http://raisemypuppy.com/puppy-training/s…

Generally I recommend teaching "Leave it" as the first command. It's really simple to teach and takes 2-3 minutes before your dog understands the basics of it:
    http://raisemypuppy.com/puppy-training/l…

Improve Your Training Sessions With These Dog Training Tips - Part 1

    • Putting the treat on the ground is the method of luring a dog into "Down".

To teach her sit, hold the treat in your hand so that she can smell it but not eat it. Put it to her nose, and then slowly draw the treat backwards from her nose right over the top of her head, towards her shoulders. Most dogs will raise their heads up to follow the progress of the treat, and as the head goes up, the bum goes down. Don't use any command at all when you first start- you don't want her to think "Sit" means "backing up to get the treat" or "squatting slightly". ONLY add in the "sit" command when her bum is fully on the ground. Action first, command second.

    • For sit: Hold a treat in your hand, in front of her nose, slowly move the treat forward(backward if your looking from her eyes) over her head. This should lure her naturally into a sitting position.
Once she is used to being lured into this position, start saying "Sit" just before she sits until she does it with just the word cue and needs no lure.

    • have the treat in your hand. walk towards her showing her the treat, so she might even back up which is great, and then put it over her head and she should sit and say sit and treat her
if it doesn't work, take it away and not try for a few minutes
it might not work on first few tries
i make sure i have a wall behind my dog so when he backs up into wall he automatically sits

    • Hold the treat above her nose and gently push her butt down. As soon as her butt hits the floor, give her the treat. Do this repeatedly until she gets the message and will do the command without a treat. Be patient......this isn't going to happen in 2 sessions.

    • Here is a video I found : http://www.ehow.co.uk/video_2349092_teac…

    • This site has some good tips for teaching female chihuahuas tricks:

      http://www.chihuahuainfoonline.com

    • Okay. It's fine. I'll give you the jist on how to sit and lay down as they are key to obedience.

This is how my info works. The first way of teaching is luring the dog to the position you want them. The second is showing them by placing them where you want them.

      Sit:
Take her favourite treat/toy and move it above her head so she has to lean back, and most likely sit. But before you do this, say the command sit, wait 2 seconds and then draw it just out of reach, JUST, so she might sit.
Another way is to find a spot where you only have to put light pressure on to make them sit. It is located near their tail, on either side. Experiment untill you see her slightly drop her hindquarters (It means you have found the spot). Then, kneeling beside her say sit and 2 seconds later put pressure on that spot.

After BOTH (if they work) reward.

      Down:
Get her to sit down (if she knows how; if she doesn't, teach her that trick first). Then tell her "down" or whatever command you want to use. Then, take her favourite treat/toy and put it just out of reach and slowly lower it down to the ground at an angle so it gets farther away and to the ground. It takes a couple tries.
Another way is to get her to sit. Then, lift her legs and slowly lower her to the ground. She will wriggle. It will take a couple of tries before she'll let you, probably.

After her chest hits the ground, immediately reward her!!

      POINTERS:
      - Teach her one at a time
      - Reward every time
      - Consistancy.
      - make a few short lessons a day, not 1 long one. Even 1 short lesson a day will do something

Tested Dog Training Tips That Improve Your Dog's Behavior

    Recommended Answer:
Personally, i don't look for degrees in dog training - they can easily be faked, you know.

I look for EXPERIENCE. Who the person trained with, what methods they use or have used, how long where they training under a person, how many people did they train under, how many dogs have they trained, are any of those dogs TITLED in obedience trials.

I also look for things like their past work history - any experience working with animals, any shelter experience, and so forth.

There is so much you CAN'T learn through a few college courses. Many colleges will focus on ONE method of training (positive methods being most popular) and that method may NOT work on all animals (in fact, being a shelter worker i KNOW that some methods being used today are totally useless for most dogs.)

It's also hard to tell which college or course is ACCURATE. There are many out there, again, that focus on or support one thing over another even though no one really knows for sure.

If i where you i would look into mentoring under a trainer or two. Or three, or four... or as many as you can find.

Add - looking at the links, most offer a lot of their "courses" over the internet and very few have rigorous hands-on training. You're better off working under a professional in the field than doing things over the internet.

Dog Health Questions: What is a reasonable a temperature for a dog to have be indoors in a harsh weather environment?

What is reasonable temperature to have a two year Cane Corso outside? Dog is house trained, but likes to be outside. Have dog house and large yard. Also, I like the breed Cane Corso. If you own one, feel free to tell me about unique things about your dog. Training etc...

Top Three Problems Solved by a Secret to Dog Training

      Recommended Answer:
It isn't the actual temp that matters, it is the temp that the dog is acclimated to that matters.
If you keep the dog in an 80 degree house 24/7 there is no way that the dog would be able to handle the cold like even a littermate that lived in a 40 degree yard 24/7.
I work my dogs in sub zero temps all the time, that's when snowshoe hunting is at it's best.

      Finding Careers in Dog Training

      • Above 20 degrees.

      • If you can have a dog door installed it won't matter the temperature as the dog can come in and out as it pleases. Otherwise, anything below 50 degrees wind chill and you should consider bringing him in. His coat is not made for harsh winters.

      • I agree with Dave, any tempurature over 20 degrees farenheight and under 70 degrees farenheight.

        Good Luck!

Dog Health Questions: Guard dog training advice needed?

I want a dog that is a good family dog but can also be protective of my family/house. Ive looked into some of the more common guard dog breeds but then a new thought occured to me. We already have a 2 year old male chocolate lab who shows some signs of being protective. He sometimes barks when people knock at the door or enter the house and he barks and growls when people are in the/his yard. My question is what are ways that i can encourage these protective type behaviors? I certainly dont' want to create a dangerous dog. But are there safe ways of teaching him some of this stuff without paying a fortune sending him to some protection dog school? thanks for the help

Dog Training Commands - How to Successfully Train Your Dog to Do Certain Commands

      Recommended Answer:
There's a world of difference between a watch dog and a guard dog. The average family dog is a watch dog - meaning they alert you when there's people at the door or in the yard. And that's all you want them to do.

A guard dog is not a dog anyone would want for a family pet and they need to be professionally trained to be safe.

If you think you need protection, you need to get an alarm system - a lab is not a guard dog. And by the way, he should not be allowed to growl at people - ever. This is something that needs to be corrected before it escalates, it's not something you want to try and encourage!

      Positive Reinforcement Dog Training

      • well why dont you install security alarms.

      • I think you should get an alarm system and leave the family dog alone. He is already alerting you when someone comes over. The best way to keep him doing that is to not correct him when he barks at strangers. BUT At the same time you need him to stop on command. An alarm system will be your best bet and will also alert police which is something your dog can't do. Having a dog who will potentially bite someone is not good. He could be taken away from you or you could be sued. The money it would cost you to get professional training will more then pay for an awesome alarm system.

      • Protection training is not something that should be done except by a professional or under the direction of one. If done wrong, you can easily train your loving family pet to be an overly protective, dangerous animal.
If he is already growling at people in the yard, you need to work on his training to assure you have enough control over him to call him off if he felt the need to defend you.
While a certain amount of protective behavior can be fostered in any breed of dog, Labs are generally very friendly dogs and while they might make a good watch dog, they are not considered great "protection" dogs.

      • Your dog sounds as if he's just right for your family right now. I wouldnt take him any further. You wouldn't want to lose your pet that you love over some nosey neighbor tresspassing. There is a difference also in a dog that bites or attacks on command and a protective dog. A dog that can judge the difference in a person that is actually meaning to cause you harm and a dog that just bites because someone is somewhere they shouldnt be. The one that protects you from harm and can judge that is a dog that loves you and would give his life for you no training needed.

Dog Health Questions: Dog training and leashes?

so how far does the animal exploitation thing go, as far as vegan do's and don'ts? I have a dog, rescued from an animal shelter 6 years ago. He's great with the family but bites strangers and other dogs. When I take him out he wears a leash and is only let off when there's no one around for him to bite. I tell him what to do i.e. come here, sit, stay, etc. He seems really happy to me. I wonder what the general opinion is on the leash and the training? I'm asking since the opinions I got on horse riding being exploitation, which fair enough, it is; although I don't think every horse involved is terribly miserable for it. But what about the dog, does vegan values say I should let him run riot biting people and peeing in the house? I'm wondering where the line is drawn, the 'me guy' seems to think it's a clear, bold line, but maybe it's more fuzzy. While people continue to support the animal trade the abandoned ones will still have to be trained in their new homes.

Dog Training Supplies - Dog Collars

      Recommended Answer:
The best answer I've heard by an animal rights author was that dogs have similar brain development to a toddler. You wouldn't open the front door and let a toddler wonder out on their own, unsupervised, that would be neglect. The same goes for dogs and cats. They need to be supervised. My dog wearing a leash when we're out on the street is just like holding the hand of a small child. Same goes for training, you teach ("train") kids to behave appropriately, and that is beneficial to them. Same goes for training your dog. Also, my own opinion is that if your dog bites, you better keep him on a leash. If he bit someone and they sued or filed a complaint, the dog will be put down- and I think he will definitely be happier to be on a leash and alive! Good luck and kudos on adopting and being patient with a shelter dog.

Dog Training Leash - A Basic Method You Need To Have

      • DOG WHISPERER

      • I would never own a pet, let alone a carnivore.

most vegans and vegetarians i know are of the same opinion.

      • I don't have a problem with people owning dogs or cats but I do have a problem with people treating them like pets instead of the animals they are. It makes me sick when I see toy breeds in purses or wearing clothes instead of walking around sniffing their surroundings or socializing with other dogs like they should be doing. Or when people get dogs and leave them outside with no socialization what so ever. Dogs live in packs and each pack has a leader. Your job is to establish the rules and make the dog follow. This can be done mostly with induceive training however some compulsion training is required. Pack leaders will often bite at disobedient dogs or pin them to the ground to establish dominance. This is not to be mistaken with abuse. Abuse is entirely different and involves pain not social correction. With my dog I always have him on a leash but the leash has plenty of slack and I never allow him to pull. This way he feels like he can walk freely but is never allowed to walk in front of me. I use a nylon leash with a collar an during our intermediate stages I used a simple choke chain but only used it about three times. As far as pinch collars and shock collars these are unnecessary and cruel. Anyone resulting to the use of these tools has no reason to be training dogs.

As for the biting, dogs will bite for three reasons; fear- fight or flight takes place, prey- they become excited and enjoy the thrill of the chase, and civil- the dog is trained to bite without the use of equipment. In most cases dogs bite out of fear. Most bites on children are due to prey drive stimulation when children run around dogs. You need to establish a positive socialization atmospher for your dog so that he feels comfortable and secure around people. At the same time you need to let him know it's not acceptable by correcting him.

      • i wanted my dog to have total freedom, when i first got him, then he started being a pest and no-one liked him and they used to treat him badly when i wasnt around, so i started some basic training! now he is a much happier dog, and has since been registed as a Seizure Alert Dog, and has saved my life on numerous occasions, and has won awards as best trained dog, and dog of the year! i would never have an un-trained dog again

      • Veganism is about reducing suffering.

How does letting a dog train itself into a dangerous animal reduce suffering? It's bad for the dog and everyone around it.

Would a vegan person let an anaconda go around eating people's babies? It's stupid to even ask ridiculous questions like this.

I will tell you one thing, if someone "buys" a dog from a breeder, pet store or from anywhere else as opposed to adopting from a shelter, they ARE NOT vegan.

Understanding the Differences Between Various Dog Training Courses

      Recommended Answer:
I haven't read this book myself, but I've heard that it is really good! It's called dog training for dummies. (part of the world famous "dummies" collection) Please take no offence by this, I don't mean it in an insulting way, I just wanted to give you a suggestion!
You could find it on any large bookstore site. I also checked before I wrote to you and I also found it on amazon.com.
      Good Luck!

      Free Dog Training Tips

      • Get a good training book. Start with a leash and collar inside the house. Keep her with you at all times so she becomes sensitive to your moves and body language. Where you go, she has to go. You also have to establish yourself as the leader of the pack. That means she gets no attention, no treats, nothing until she obeys a command. Teach sit first, that's the easiest, then stay and go from there. Make her do it several times a day.

      L.A. is a big town.

If you could narrow it down I could possibly direct you to a great trainer. example- San Fernando Valley etc...

I suggest you set higher goals then a CGC. Honestly I could train an ant to do the CGC in no time.

The 10 week training class I attend and assist with has a dog ready to attain its AKC Novice Level Obedience title after we are finished- in fact our graduation is the AKC novice level test.

Set higher goals and you will laugh at the simplicity of the CGC

ADD: I suggest you contact the Obedience Club closest to you to find a suitable trainer.
When interviewing them ask how many dogs they have titled and to what level. Also
ask how many titles their students have earned as well. As they say "those who can't do, teach"

Here is the link for local Obedience Clubs-your dog does not need to be AKC registered or a purebred to particpate

      http://www.akc.org/events/obedience/trai… (correct link)

I have to laugh, for the links that were provided to you in another post- not a single one of those so called trainers has put a title on a dog. If they have they certainly did not mention it in their ads.
Run far and run fast from those kind of folks.

      Dog Health Questions: Dog training?

Is it possible to train your dog to poop in one corner of the yard?

7 Important Dog Training Tips For You

      Recommended Answer:
Yes, I do it with my dogs and it's basically the same as training indoors. Clean up the entire yard except for one that you leave in the area you pick. Take them out (on a leash but not necessary if you stay right with them), let them see the poo and give the command to potty. If they walk away fine, just stay with them. When you catch them starting to go say NO and walk them back to the area. If not on a leash just grab the collar. They might walk away several times but sooner or later if they have to go they will, and it will be where you want. Then praise like no tomorrow. Keep at it until the dog is consistent and clean up time will be a breeze for you

      ADDED:
Actually I need to change that. When you 1st take the dog out don't give the command to potty. Just show it to them. It's a mistake to give a command when you know the dog might not be able comply, so unless you're absolutely sure he needs to go... Sorry, I must not have had my thinking cap on all the way.........

Advantages of Using Dog Training Videos

      • Oh ya, when you take your dog to poo. only go to one spot, and don't move. My puppy has a spot to pee, and a spot to poo now that I have done this with her. It doesn't take long before your dog should catch on. Good Luck!

      • Yes. Bring him to that area and make him stay there until he poops. Watch him at all times when he is outdoors so if you see him start to go in another area you can drag him over to the potty place. He needs to be praised and rewarded each time he uses the potty place. When he has successfully gone to the potty place 100 times while outside without your guidance you can probably stop watching him when he's outdoors.

I used to potty my dogs in a kennel run before they were allowed out into the play yard.

      • Yep, just take him there every time he needs to go and praise him when he does. He'll get it.

      • Yes. Take your dog to a spot after each meal. They will soon consider that place their "potty" spot.

      • Yes.

      • Sure is...tie him out there and he'll learn the place!

Secrets of Dog Training Professionals - Why Use Food?

      Recommended Answer:
You can pick those up in like a teacher's store. You might find them in an office supply store also. Glad that you are doing clicker with your dog. I will be going to the Clicker Expo in January for a 3 day weekend. Very excited to go to it.

I have one of those clickers. I refer the "I click", it has a softer click. I wanted to use clicker with my client, and they said no way. Someone at the vet was doing that to their dog and it was making them nuts with all of the clicks.

Dog Health Questions: Where can I find a business partner for dog training business?

I want to start a dog training business with a facility and everything that specializes in aggression rehabilitation. The problem is I don't have enough experience in aggression. This is why I need a business partner who does. Anyone know where to find one? or is interested? I have a lot of experience with dogs and all animals for that matter and I am very professional. Someone please help. I am in Northern VA if anyone is interested.

8 Dog Training Tips For Dog Lovers

      Recommended Answer:
First - you need to find someone to take you on as a dog training apprentice.

Then once you have spent 5-7 years learning about aggression and dog behaviour, then you are going to want to take a few business courses, so that you can run a facility like that.

The best trainers in the world are not going to partner with someone who doesn't know much. They don't want to be stuck doing all the work.

Make yourself more valuable to them by educatingg yourself to the hilt. Go to seminars, trials, train dogs at the shelter. Make a name for yourself first.

Word travels by mouth in the dog world - so you build your rep first - then people will be searching you out and not the other way around.

      Good luck!

So You Want A Career In Dog Training

      • Yes, very professional - you're looking online on a web forum. If you have "a lot of experience with dogs" then you should have some ties in that community in your area and you would be talking to various people about this business venture IN PERSON.

That being said, YOU need to have some hands on experience under a mentor long before you set up a business claiming to help with aggressive dogs. You need to have references and contacts. Then you might be able to find someone in the community that has the time and money to put into a new business.

      • Hi (askername) Certain foods are better than others at burning fat. Among them are low-fat dairy, which includes low fat milk and low-fat yogurt. I do know that if I eat low-fat cottage cheese I seem to stay fuller longer than if I eat a sandwich. Oatmeal is another food that burns fat, and the old fashioned oatmeal is better than instant. Green tea and coffee also help to burn fat and they are calorie free. Lean meat and fish are a couple of others that burn fat. The truth about abs program will also give you a list of fat burning foods as well as exercises to lose that belly fat and get you six pack abs fast.

        Good Luck.
