Dog Health Questions: Does anyone know of a place in kansas where i can have my dog trained as a guard dog?

my dog is a rottie :)
dont tell me its bad or watever i know what im doing

Dog Training Advice - How To Do Obedience Training For Your Dog

Recommended Answer:
No, you do not know what you're doing. A guard dog is different from a watch dog. Your dog probably doesn't have the temperament to be a guard dog. If you want protection, get a gun and an alarm system.

Dog Training: It's Not Just For Adults Anymore

  • Unless you can have it sit promptly on command while it is intently focusing on something (whether barking or attacking or something of the sorts), then you shouldn't train it to be a 'guard' dog. Guard dogs are what trained security people have and are not objects to be trifled with. It is more logical to have your dog as a watch dog. And to do so, train it well in obedience and once it knows who you are and what its property is, then itll keep an eye on what it is supposed to.And if you know what you are doing, surely you're a professional and have no need to be inquiring about training stuffs from the people on Yahoo! answers.

  • You sure don't sound like you know what you're doing.
Ask again when you move out of your parents house, kiddo :)

Dog Health Questions: Why does my dog keep pulling on the lead?

hiya, everytime i take my dog out, she constantly pulls on the lead and ive tried pulling her back and saying no and come here and ive even tried giving her treats when she does it right like on dog borstal lol but nothing works, would i have to take her to a dog training place or can i do stuff at home? talking her for walks is a nightmare lol so any hints and tips out there?? thank you

The Three Dog Training Mistakes You Should Avoid

Recommended Answer:
Take her to an obedience class so you can be taught how to train her to walk on lead.

If normal training techniques don't work, I would ask the trainer about helping you fit and teach you how to use, a prong collar. That will fix the pulling within minutes.

Dog Training Advice - Top 5 Important Dog Training Advice And Tips For Your Dog Obedience Training

  • Sign up for obedience classes. She can't learn unless you teach her, and you need to learn HOW to teach her.

  • Try a prong collar and a more serious correction. Pulling her back won't do much unless you have a very soft dog (soft meaning a dog who is really sensitive to corrections, the kind of dog if you tell it "No" it acts like the world has ended). Just fit the prong collar high on the neck and snugly and when she pulls ahead give her a short quick "pop" correction with the leash, put her back to your side and keep walking. Do it all in stride. After a few corrections she'll realize that she's not allowed to be walking out ahead of you, much less pulling. I hope I helped, good luck!

  • First off obedience classes will help, but if you dont have the time at least invest in a leather lead, not one of those obnoxious retractable things, also a halti/ head collar will help to stop with the pulling. When your out with your dog, and she starts pulling, immediately turn the other direction. If she starts pulling this ways turn around again. This way the dog will learn that if she doesn't pull she will get where she wants to go.

  • The answer has to be training (and being prepared to look absolutely mad to your neighbours). Set out for a walk, immediately she pulls you turn round and walk back towards the house. Only when she stops pulling do you start on the walk again. You keep on doing this, even if it means for a few days you never get beyond your garden gate. An alternative to this is to walk backwards if she pulls rather than turning round, or as a third alternative just stand still, but in any method you do not go towards the park or wherever you go on your walks if she is pulling. If you are strict in doing this and don't give in to her she will soon realise that she gets nowhere at all if she pulls. Couple this with plenty of praise whilst she is walking without pulling.

  • Need to show that you are the alpha leader. Your pulling might not be forceful enough to get attention. No means nothing to your dog unless it feels the rigor. If you continue to walk while it pulls and say no then there is a mix up on the message. You need to stop immediately pull hard and then say NO!! and keep on doing it without moving until the dog minds you. Every time it minds you then you need to praise it. Good luck!!

  • She's pulling on the lead because she's excited. I think it's also a "i'm the pack leader" mentality.
Try this: Every time you feel tension on the leed, stop in your tracks. WAIT until she comes back to you to continue forward. It may be difficult at first, but stick to it. Once she realizes what she has to do to keep the walk going, she should do it. Our trainer called this a "life reward" because you arent actually giving her treats, the reward is when you resume the walk.

Bad Dog Training Tricks - How to Correct Bad Dog Behavior

Recommended Answer:
I would avoid ANY "franchise" so-called training companies......especially Fart Busters. A 30 second conversation with one of them should be enough to show you they are completely Nuts.

Dog Training - A Systematic Approach

  • You can do a lot of this yourself with time an patience. There are many sites on line that will give you very good information and pointers. Here is one such site: http://www.freedogtrainingarticles.com/P… Your local library will also have dog training books. That is how I trained my two rescue dogs. One of the main things is to make sure you are using an assertive voice not a baby voice. You do not have to be mean and yell but you do have to establish your dominance. Time and lots of patience is key. Be assertive and not whimpy. Remember this is not your "baby" it is your pet. A well trained dog is a happy dog. A well trained dog makes a happy owner.

Dog Health Questions: HELP we don't know what to do with our dog!?

we have two border collie dogs, one is female & 7 years and the other one is male and is 4.
the male is such a handful, we've had enough.
we bought him as a puppy from a farm which is probably why he is so energetic and different from our other collie. at the beginning of the year we had the vets do that operation on him to remove the testicles or whatever they do, because we were told it was likely to calm him down.
if anything, he has got worse. he barks all the time, he goes mad when people come in the house so we have to shut him behind a stairgate which he now jumps over, he is restless and paces constantly. on several occasions he has got quite nasty and he has bit me, but he's never bit anyone else. he lives in a house with women & there are no men. we do have male family members & he only actually listens to them. some kind of domination maybe? he loves to be centre of attention and gets jealous when someone is fussing over our other collie.
what can we do? all very well saying about dog training classes but my mum can't afford much. any ways we can try to control him? because my mum is considering getting rid of him because he is such a pain! but i don't think thats a good idea because our two dogs are so close, the older one might get depressed or something & plus she's old we don't want anything to happen...

Basic Dog Training - Starting Off on the Right Paw

Recommended Answer:
Eeek! Sounds like handful!
Couple suggestions...as stated in the other answers, call around to different trainers and explain your situation. Petsmart is $100 for 8 weeks. You may be able to find something much cheaper if you reach out!
Sounds like he needs some good exercise as well...invest in a good leash, harness, and/or muzzle pending how he is with other dogs. Take him for long walk-this is important to do everyday even if you have a yard. Dogs need a lot of discipline and exercises.
Invest in some books and/or hit up your local library!
Any training techniques you learn you must repeat everyday. Repetition is key. Dogs are like kids...they will get away with out they can!
It really doesn't matter if male or female family members are in the house. A lot of times dogs may listen to males more b/c their tone is deeper and more firm. Women can do this to and the dogs will listen.
Very worse case, if you recognize this just isn't working out-call the local Border Collie Rescue and they will help you potentially find a better situation for the dog.

7 Important Dog Training Tips For You

  • First of all this is a prime example of why castration isn't ever an alternative to training.

Having said that, yes, you probably have a BC from a working strain, and not for nothing are they called a working strain - these sort need to be occupied, mentally as much as physically, if not more. They thrive on things like agility. And they need to run ALL DAY.

Personally I think, from what you are saying, you probably need to seriously consider whether a home with people who can do what's needed with this dog to channel all that energy, might be the best option. Don't worry about the other one - she might be upset to begin with, but to be honest, if your home is in uproar because of what the younger lad is getting up to, she may actually enjoy the calmer atmosphere, and being a single dog. And in push comes to shove and she's obviously upset being on her own, you could consider, later on, finding her a companion. Maybe a Rescue dog, one that's slightly older than a puppy.

Hopefully you can still get this lad under control however because rehoming is difficult, for you and for the dog - and so often once rehomed the first time, they start going from home to home, which is going to make his behaviour worse.

  • It is all to do with a lack of training.
Get some books from your library about dog training and start him on your own program.

  • If you cannot for whatever reason train the dogs (which is what it needs) then either sign the dog over to Border Collie Rescue or have it euthanised as this is no life for it.

  • Clearly you need an intervention. My husband is a dog trainer and he runs his business from his heart not his prices. Call a personal trainer . Tell the trainer your financial needs. Trainers ... I mean good Trainers hate it when dogs are given up on by there owners. If you cannot get a personal one .. Call the animal shelter .. Most have training classes available at low cost.

  • it sounds like my dog he a hand full for sure my mom would beat him for doing something wrong and it just made it worst i just treated him nice and would let him out when he need it or something or when he bark i would just hold him to the person so he can sniff them it was funny how my mom would try train him one way but some dogs learn from pain and other dogs learn from being kind it a long process and anyways i think if none of it works probly get a sock collier for him that goes off if he barks it nothing i would do but it your choice

PS: if you trainer your dog yourself and it works you probably feel a lot better then having someone else do it, i know i do :)

Dog Training Classes - Dog Training to Unleash Your Dog's Full Potential

Recommended Answer:
I had a problem with 2 of my dogs fighting. They are bascially fighting for "top dog" status. As dumb as it sounds the trainer we had for my dogs said that as the master we have to remind our dogs that WE are top dog and neither of them are. Some suggestions inculded
1. not sitting on the floor or lowering yourself to them for "puppy" talk
2. marching around like your tough(this one looks funny but it scared the crap outta one of my dogs)
3. talking in stearn voices

The trainer said they are still going to fight sometimes cuz thats what dogs do but it wont be as bad and it will be less. Also she suggets having your female dogs spaded because that will calm them down too. My dogs are well behaved now for the most part. they even sometimes cuddle together! Goodluck

7 Important Dog Training Tips For You

  • i have used the techniques from the Monks of New Skete and the Dog whisperer for the past 2 years on my german shep pup and have have absolutely positive results. the latest things he's been taught to do, be completely social with humans and dogs, close doors when commmanded, walk off leash and stay in close proximity and come when commanded. and now he's working on turning off the lights....

  • keep them separated when you can't directly watch them.
if one of them starts posturing like it's going to fight, you need to remove it and put it away from the other dogs.
having them altered will help, if they aren't already.

you don't need to hit your dogs, but you do need to correct them when they are acting in a way you don't want them to. do whatever you are comfortable with that's effective to them. (i.e. throwing a shake can, spraying them with water, etc) always remove the offender.

  • pull them appart when they are fighting and smack them lightly.

Dog Health Questions: Dog training using german commands - pls help!?

I would like to train my puppy using german commands. I attempted to use an online translator am unsure how accurate it is (I think not very since I got two very different answers for the same word at two different times). In particular, I am looking for the following: come, sit, stay, down/lay down, off, leave it/drop it, heel, attack, release, ignore, jump, over, through, weave, up, down, across, as well as anything else important in agility that I may have missed. If there is a website listing them that would be great; correct pronunciation would also be great.
Any help much appreciated, thanks!

The Basic Commands For Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
If you aren't fluent in German, then there's no point in you trying to train the dog to german commands as you cannot pronounce them properly.

If you have some valid reason why you MUST, then you need to pay a translator to TEACH YOU how to properly pronounce those commands. You also need to learn, in that case, what commands a german dog trainer would use.

The Kinds of Dog Training Collars

  • Why would you want him to use german commands?

If you dont speak german, dont do it. Speaking 2 languages can confuse the dog even more.

  • I would start doing some serious dog training sessions ASAP. Dog trainers/schools are OK, but if YOU are the one that trains your dog, he'll listen to you much more willingly. Here's a dog training course I recommend... http://tinyurl.com/2cpzqo

Dog Health Questions: Is there a way I could train my dog to be off leash in 6 days besides working with him every day like I do.?

Ok well im in dog training for 4h to be in the dog show and my instructor said that by the 2nd week of dog training we have to be ready to be off leash. My dog is a Australian shepherd mixed boarder collie and hes 3 or 4 years old.
Besides working with him every ( I do already) what could I do to get him ready to be off leash

Dog Training School

Recommended Answer:
Your instructor must be really, really new at dog training. And he's going to have a huge mess on his hands if he seriously thinks a group of dogs are ready to work off-leash by the 2nd week of training!

Reliable off-leash work takes much, much longer to train. I sure hope these dogs are all in a building or behind a secure fence and he's insured for damage caused by dog fights.

Time-Tested Tips On Behavior Dog Training For Beginners

  • work harder make it more fun for him

  • I don't get that first answer.. or the question really... Am i missing something.. its not that hard to control a dog off lead ...

My dog has never been to any dog training classes, and we haven't done much work with him at home. Granted he jumps up a lot and barks to get attention, he is going to join a training class. But he is controllable off the lead easy. We always take him on walks where there are lots of other dogs, but he always comes back when we call, stays when you want him, if there is a car coming you can call him over and keep him out of the way :) xx

  • Walking Lady has it right....holy moly....I have never heard of a training instructor that even THINKS about the *possibility* of a little off-leash work without at least 8 weeks of training.

And that's usually in an intermediate class where students & dogs have a good foundation. And the transition to off-leash is slow, gradual and cautious. I've always started by transitioning to nylon clothesline leashes & working up to thinner and shorter lead material. The dog gets accustomed to the feeling of not being leashed but you're still able to give corrections when you're proofing the training with distractions, etc.

Going off-leash too soon can be a huge setback in training. If you don't have 100% control on-leash, and you go off-leash all of a sudden, your dog learns that you *cannot* control him off-leash and he does not have to obey you.

You likely have a very biddable & trainable dog if he is BC/Aussie, but still.....he is also a SMART dog and will figure out quickly that you're not "the boss" when he's off leash.

I would speak with your instructor in private and try to find out details about what he expects, and how he expects you to accomplish it....

If he's just saying, "Yep, in two weeks, you've all got to show up with dogs who can work off-leash"....and he's not going to offer instructions on HOW to do this......do NOT, absolutely do NOT put any pressure on yourself, or your dog.

To take a dog from beginner to OFF LEASH in two weeks is wildly unreasonable- to attempt it is unfair to your dog & will only frustrate you. If you cannot reason with the trainer it's better for your dog to remove her from this activity & find a more constructive outlet for her such as Agility.

***ADD: To Mel Jel, your dog sounds naturally biddable & owner-oriented which is largely the exception to the rule. Many, many dogs are more strongly driven to chase, sniff and otherwise explore the world, than they are to obey their owner's call. Teaching such a dog that sitting & staying by your side is more rewarding than chasing a bunny, playing with another dog or sniffing the amazing scents all around him is a difficult process.

In a class setting with multiple dogs, chances are more dogs will be of the "chase & sniff" mindset, rather than the "I live to please my owner" mindset. Furthermore, we're not just talking about a dog who "comes when called" off-leash....this is a "dog show" where a dog will be expected to follow a series of precise behaviors off-leash. Teaching a dog to do exactly as he's told 100% of the time without a leash to control him is NOT something that happens quickly.

  • Hi!

You need a full and proven dog training program.

For instance, things to consider before adopting a dog, choosing the right breed, dealing with breeders, the secrets of dog training; and then moves on at common dog problems including biting and nipping, aggression, jealousy, digging holes, disobedience, separation anxiety, fights with other dogs, destructive behavior and even understanding how your dog thinks.

The core of SitStayFetch system is the communication between dog and owner. Daniel Stevens understands that most of common dog problems are from the lack of communication. Your dog simply doesn't understand what you want. SitStayFetch demonstrates how dogs communicate, what are they thinking, how you can communicate with them effectively.

Dog Health Questions: Dog obedience/training?

Do most people have their dogs trained?

Is it better to have a professional who has more experience to train your dog or is it better for YOU to train your dog?

Dog Training Hand Signals - 2 Important Commands You Can Teach Today

Recommended Answer:
It is always best for YOU to be trained to properly interact with and train your dog by someone who is a knowledgeable and eclectic instructor - this isn't dictated by 'professional' status but can often be found in local obedience and/or agility clubs. You cannot properly train your dog if you are not trained yourself to work with him.

The 'experience' you want is someone who has a lot of differing techniques and has instructed others to be successful in their training/trialing endeavors as well as has trained and trialed themselves at various levels, at least above the one they are training you in. Most 'professionals' are merely bought and paid for certification things from taking six week courses and the like and the people have really very little actual experiences themselves. Take your time to look around for instructors and go watch them in a class situation and discuss their techniques and knowledge with them. They should be able to let you know that they utilize various techniques and are not 'one trick ponies' that can't adjust their training styles and techniques to the variations in people and dogs.

Good luck

Dog Training Basics: 3 Golden Rules

  • It's best to go to a professional who will teach you to teach your dog. Personally, I would never ever send my dog away to be trained, your not there to see what techniques their using, plus, the dog needs to respond to you.

  • It is better if you and your dog attend classes given by a professional dog trainer.

  • I think it is better to have your dog trained professionally only because it will be faster, and they know how to do it, but I would rather take the time and do it myself.

  • Trainers cost big time if you have the money, then by all means , take them to a trainer, but if you want to save money and train them yourself , that is the best Choice.Buy a short lease,as in a pet store they will advise you the best of the best to train your pet, If you have the time, train one command til he or she knows it well, then start a new command and continue till your satisfy with the results . Have a great time with your pet and good luck!

  • If you are a first time dog owner, you should let a professional do it. Otherwise, its all you.

  • Be aware that there are different methods of training.
Those will fall into 2 main categories.

The traditional way is compulsive training and uses some type of training collar (usually a choker or pinch collar) to give the dog what is often referred to as 'corrections'.
The dog is forced to respond in order to avoid or escape these 'karate chops to the throat'.
Not a nice way for the dog to learn and not for the faint-hearted dog owner either.
The method relies on negative reinforcement and punishment, but is sometimes complemented (depends on the trainer/owner) with rewards for doing the right thing too. The gentler methods are predominantly based on Positive Reinforcement. Some trainers use a lot of luring and rewarding.
A major improvement is when in combination with an event marker (a clicker is wide-spread used), it resembles marine mammal training.
You can learn to 'capture' instantaneous responses similar to taking a snapshot with your camera. Things such as lifting a paw, eye contact, head turns, taking a bow (stretch), and of course a sit, down, picking up items, dropping items and basically everything a dog does.
The dog responds because he predicts getting a reward.
He wants to respond because the consequences are pleasant -- he LOVES the training sessions because those are opportunities to earn rewards.
You can teach the most amazing behaviors in small steps, a process refered to as shaping.

I went the route of learning behavior analysis/modification (operant conditioning) myself and I find it is the best thing I've ever done in my life. I've taught her the most amazing things I never before believed I could do. Now, I would never just hand my dog over to a trainer unless I'm absolutely sure he/she uses 'positive' only methods and even then only when I'm supervising.

If you do choose or are curious to head into that direction, here's an excellent starting point:

    http://www.clickersolutions.com/articles…

It's also got a mailing list with lots of members and everyone is free to join.Of course, I can't stop you if you choose to take your dog to the first trainer you can find, whether that be positive or traditional. All I can recommend is that if you love your dog, do a little home work first and learn how each method affects a dog's personallity. Training is learning and should be fun -- not a pain in the neck!

Dog Health Questions: Where is the best place to find free tutorials on dog training?

Well I have a black female German Shepard named Bear, she's pretty disobedient, and because of that, no body wants to spend any time with her. She's about a year and half old.
I really feal sorry for her, I mean she gets attention, but not enough.
So I need some tutorails on how to train a dog, and I'm going to try to make her my friend and spend what ever it takes to make her at least a little loyal. :P

Where can I find tutorials on how to train a dog to be loyal?

Thanks,

Dog Health Questions: Another Dog training question!?

I am training my puppy to go to the bathroom on command. When he goes, I praise him, repeat his word, and give him a treat. Now, what should I do if he goes in the wrong spot? Should I still treat him anyway or not? Please help!

Online Dog Training and Puppy Training

Recommended Answer:
Are you training him to go in only one spot or training him to only go if you say so? The latter really isn't possible. I have trained both of my dogs to know that when I say "Go Whiz" that I want them to go to the bathroom. however, they also go when they have to go even if I don't give them permission. They are not allowed to go in certain places. pups have to go a lot and can't really hold it like an older dog. If you are asking if while you are training your dog to know the word you designate for going to the bathroom should be taught along side of where the dog should go to the bathroom then you are trying to teach a lot at the same time. It is fine to do so. but be patient and gentle, it's harder to learn two things at once.

Dog Training Programs - How Do You Decide?

  • As long as your taking the puppy to go outside then it is okay and praise him for going . All dogs and puppies will want to sniff and go in another spot but do not scold him .
Now if he is going say across in a neighbors yard you want to correct that and not let the puppy do that .
but as long as your puppy is going somewhere outside and not in the house on a puppy pad then it is okay.
What you want the puppy to do is go on command and that is what he is learning and the treat teaches him if he goes, he gets a treat.
Now again do not let him go on someone Else's yard on on flowers but in your yard and help him try to go there often.
    It is okay.

  • now, it depends, is the dog exactly in a spot where he looks at you with his eyes and his head down,
does he look with respect and dignity with his head held up high after he pees? simply, if he looks completely not trustable, don't spank him, if he obeys you allot like most loving dogs, once you have his attention with his not so good treat, tell him: no... not that place, this place. and he needs to look at you straight and you re direct him. if he doesn't, then try to get his attention by if yelling once even or if he even bites you a way to train him not to do that is to act like it really hurts after the bite so if he loves you, he'll stop, and eventually with all this advice, he will stop peeing in the wrong spot. PLEASE, be careful not to be training completely wrong or he will run away for no good or completely good reason.
    take care.

  • No don't praise him or treat him if he goes in the wrong spot. If he's very young and still being housebroken, then don't correct him either, but simply call him away or try to distract him.

  • don't show anger or surprise to the dog be calm show assertiveness and act disaponted in him and redirect him to the correct spot to potty do not renforce bad behavior

  • no. if he goes in the wrong spot, you say No,
redirect him and when he goes in the good spot,
    praise him.

  • Why would you reward the puppy for unwanted behavior?

Dog Health Questions: What is the best way to keep a dog from barking?

We have a 2 year-old Yorkie who barks like crazy when she wants to go out, eat, hears someone walking by, and wants to play. Our roommates are asking our landlord to throw us out. Are there any quick-fixes? A bark collar with a bad lemon smell or a sharp piercing high frequency tone seems a bit cruel, but if it's effective and quick, I'd consider it. We don't have time or money for months of dog-training workshops.

The Basic Commands For Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
You need an electric bark collar, one that adjusts the shock if they keep barking.

Important Information Regarding Dog Training That Can Help You

  • Yes a bark collar would definitely be the quickest and most reliable solution. Although this like many things in our society is just a band aid and doesn't get to the root of the problem, namely "why" are they barking?

I would suggest asking the vet the next time you're in. Avoid showing them any attention like petting or coddling during and after they are barking.

Make sure they're basic needs are met, they're fed, they've gone to the bathroom, they're not bored and they have no health problems of any kind. Sometimes they just need attention so leaving them for long hours alone can cause barking simply because of boredom. Having another dog can help as well.

Whatever you do, do not shout to try to stop them from barking. I learned this when working at a vet in H.S. It does not work and actually can show them you don't have any control as well.

  • My Neighbors And The Dogs From Hell!

We had been having trouble for months with our neighbors and their dogs. The dogs will bark all day and all night and it does not seem to bother them.

I have tried everything from cursing at the neighbors to calling the cops but nothing worked and it seemed like the cops felt like they had better things to do.

I finally found a solution to this problem and I could not believe how easy it was. Just go to http://www.antibarkingdevice.com and it will show exactly how to stop your neighbor's dog from barking.

I just popped their cd into my stereo and blasted the dog with an ultrasonic sound that humans cannot hear. It worked after one day and I was totally amazed. Anytime I hear them bark, I give them a taste of the blast just to remind them not to bark. You will love the power of shutting them up!

  • The best way to fix this problem is giving your dog a personal training. It only takes a week or so. Nuisance barking is usually caused by dogs craving for your attention and allotting a portion of your day to it will do the job. You can either give it its daily exercise or better yet, give it some training or teach it a new trick to stimulate its mental and physical health at the same time bonding with it. Doing this will use up most of his daily energy and be too tired to do unnecessary things such as barking.

Also, giving it a personal training will teach your dog to be obedient to follow your orders especially to stop barking. :)

I recommend that you watch my 4 minute dog training video to serve as your guide on how to effectively train your dog at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncUgmH4HZ…

  • Get a good bark collar. They work. The kind that I am familiar with give the dog a small electric jolt to the throat when it barks. It isn't painful, but it is unpleasant enough to get the dog's attention.

  • Bark collar is definitely the easiest quick fix. Worked for mine.

  • Training collars are more expensive than training classes. The good kind runs abou $120

  • I would not suggest a training collar on a dog that small. Their tiny necks might not be able to handle it. Why not look into a few good training books on the subject?

At-Home Dog Training Tips

  • I have never used a video to train a dog. I know that the best training method is to attend a class or private sessions with a professional dog trainer. However, I imagine that a video would be second-best to that, because at least you can see what the trainer is doing. It would be better than a book, I think, in which you don't have good visuals to compare yourself to.

Dog Health Questions: Could I open my own dog training facility without a certificate?

I suppose I don't really need any information, I just need a yes or no answer.. maybe a little detail. Or what I can do to get a certificate if needed without paying an unreasonable amount of money. If I can't open my own business could I at least work for one without a certificate?

5 Advisory Tips For Good Dog Training

Recommended Answer:
You just have to have all the stuff that is required in your area to open and run a business. Trainers do not have to be certified in anything. The best trainers are the ones that know how to train dogs and their owners using many methods that get results.

Dog Training Videos - A Great Way to Learn How to Obedience Train Your Dog

  • To Be taken as a credible trainer, you will need certification. It is only right to have this as then anyone could hang a shingle and claim to be anything. If you are not trained up on the new techniques evolving all the time you cannot teach what you don't know! Also, would you pay a lot of money to someone who isn't certified? There are lots of trainer schools all over the country...and also don't forget the possibility of maybe being mentored by an established trainer. You will miss out on many phases of dog training...utility, search and rescue. this just names a few, as there are many other jobs dogs do now days,,,and all need training! You want a good education.

  • I do not know if you can open your own place but yes you can be a trainer without a certificate. You dont need a certificate to work on cars, just knowledge.

I am an accredited PetSmart dog trainer and they trained me. I went through 90 hours of physical training and book work/testing.
If you want to start off working as a trainer, go for places such as Petco or PetSmart

  • No. If you plan on people paying you for training, then it would be considered a business.

You'd have to have a license and insurance and file with the IRS.

  • I have had great success with the dog training provided at this website. Take a look!
